i'll bet they've got some sorta IP database - the more they've regsitered that you try them, the less they give you.
my paranoid nature says they're smirking at us:
'concentrate on the silver timepiece swaying in front of you and repeat 'sign me up for your premium already!'"

ha, i just picked up meniketti's 'live in japan 2003' after i filetube'd his name...and guess what? it was on FF too. i c&p'd it and it came right up, on FF.
coincidences i gotta suppose, but hmmm.
it was a still-live link from someone's now-defunct blogspot (thehousethathardrockbuilt blogspot - i thank ya).
~
as an experiment, i c&p'd that FF link (japan 2003) from filestube attached it to the rejected FF window from this 2001 show, and up it came, again.
THEN i c&p'd this 2001 again, rejected.
THEN the 2003 japan, accepted again.
mmm, i don't know how many trials need to be done to show this result is reproducible, but there's something going on. the link for the 2003 (h**p://filefactory.com/file/b45e67g/) is way shorter than yours, wolfsbane - if that means anything.
but i just took it, opened up another window, pasted it, and FF came right up.
and for the hell of it, i just did this link again...and again the finger.
pretty damned reproducible if you ask me....is FF 'marking' your postings some how maybe?
ARE you getting shiploads of DLs of the shows you paste up or is it just a trickle compared to the pre-megadebacle..?

Could be the link was posted years ago which would explain the shorter link.
The d/l's aren't too bad compared to Mega, then again it all depends on how badly you want the show and if one is willing to be patient enough to deal with the wait times that FF has or spend a few bucks to go premium and not have to wait.
Did I tell you why I'm using FF only...

no, that part i understand - not making any pleas to switch or re-up with others.
tho i do wonder whether FF serves you well re whether you're getting similar #s of DLs from your links still.
i'm just wondering if there's some sort of a tech glitch that puts anyone using FF links either out of G101 or perhaps specifically yours, into some long-ass queue...or a long-ER one>
one which didn't exist before FF saw it wants to push sales of its premium brand service (which several here have anecdotally already said was no improvement even if you pay FF)...mega and filesonic going down created a void and creative moneymakers wish to fill that void.
it's just weird taht something perhaps a wee bit 'older' goes 'zoom' and yours sit idle that much longer.
speedwise, i don't care how fast FF is as long as it doesn't hang up, just let me have the link and i can let it go...and mega, in the day was spotty, but it sometimes DID blaze.
that said FF never blazes.

I've no problem with FF in terms of downloading, but then again it might depend on if your ISP is limiting the speed.
I agree with you on the moneymaking and cashing in part.
There is actually a way with FF as an uploader whereby you can set your uploads to a premium only membership, meaning that only premium members would be able to download. I for one do not do that.
Whether or not speed is of the essence, the Premium account with FF simply allows you to bypass the waiting que is all, I can't comment on the speed issue though.

I haven't been able to. Same goes for a Georgia Satellites show. " All free user spots are taken". Screw FF. What a bunch of assholes when it comes to hosting. Pay or you don't play.

funny thing is that, for me, it's just tHIS one...i have been able to grab other FF files, from tinajazz (most notably, not one rejection after figuring 'what the hell why not try'), from others i've found through filetram...and i don't think i've even tried any others from wolfsbane either.
same thing this morning for this meniketti...

and as long as i'm bumping - an imo worthwhile thought i posted at tinajazz's UFO texas 1979 show which i successfully grabbed from the get-go, on filefactory:
Quote:
i DL'd this last night and was going to just stop to say thanks, but with the difficulty of getting FF files to even getting us into the line, i thought i'd bang this link again and damned if it didn't come right up.
THREE separate times. just now - after wolfbane's meneketti and stevie wonder links continually shoved their 'gimme money'-hands out at me.
3 times on this link, withOUT being a premium payer.
and i've found several times these links which apparently are not linked in any way to these super-busy 'come back or pay' servers cos they will ALWAYS link you with no regard to whether one particular FF show you've been trying for, just keeps skunking you over and over at any hour of the day.
if THOSE are busy, so should be THESE easy ones, i mean come on.
if it's a system of worldwide server locations, i do recall several hosting sites ASKING 'well, which of these servers would you wish to attempt?'... which i suppose doesn't serve FF's north american division's business model of dbl-digit growth - i for one hope this concept of purposely holding back backfires
|
there's wild inconsistencies throughout FF's 'generosity' for the people trying to dl through them and yeah, it's their business, THEY get to pull the strings.
still, some of us have been through several eras of seeing how these host sites CAN organize themselves, so the manipulation here seems pretty blatant.
the problem that FF doesn't seem to see...or doesn't wish to believe, is that they're also souring a lot of people to their product.
