Don Dokken - Milwaukee, WI 31.01.2008 (Acoustic)

Don Dokken - Acoustic
Northern Lights Theater, Potawatomi Casino, Milwaukee, WI, USA
January 31, 2008

Audience Recording: Zoom H4 w/ built-in stereo mic L & R .wav file 44.1 kHz 16-bit -> WavePad (track splitting, equalization, & amplification) .wav PCM format (44.1 kHz, 16-bit, Stereo 172 kb/sec) -> FLAC Frontend (level 8) -> ABC 3.1 -> MP3

Recorded by Hurricane62 from right-center stage VERY close to the front.

This was recorded on the third night of three shows in Milwakee (8th or 9th show of 2008 tour). Don was accompanied by Kelly Keeling (TSO West) on the 12-string guitar. Don & Kelly are the opening act for Queensryche on the current 2008 World Tour.

While both Don and Kelly were perhaps off of their "A" game on this night, this performance is memorable in that there are so many mistakes that both Don and Kelly can hardly keep from laughing at times and were downright self-depreciating throughout the show.

Don's banter between songs was also very entertaining. I've broken out the banter from the musical tracks and amplified these tracks a little so that you can better hear Don's remarks.

In its raw form this recording was very heavy in bass and was high on the input gain as I was guessing on the settings on my Zoom H4. I had zeroed in on settings for Queensryche's much louder show so I had to guess on how much more gain to add to the input for the acoustic opener and missed a touch on the high side. I did my best with WavePad to apply a high-pass filter and then amplify the result to get what you now hear.

Set-list:

01. Don Banter #1 1:10
02. Into The Fire 4:23
03. Don Banter #2 1:23
04. Breaking The Chains 4:46
05. Don Banter #3 0:33
06. Just Got Lucky 5:11
07. Don Banter #4 0:59
08. It's Not Love 4:40
09. Don Banter #5 1:30
10. Alone Again 6:24
11. Don Banter #6 0:47
12. In My Dreams 4:25

(Total time 36:15)

If you listen to the Summerfest broadcast(1994) it's pretty similar(sort of)
Don does like to talk....he seems to make himself nervous at times. First show was the best.....they seemed to get bored. Maybe Don can't handle just being an opening act...........thanks for recording and all your others too.
