Introduction:
This was a charity show in aid of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, a centre for providing music therapy for mentally, physically, and autistically handicapped children, and the BRIT School for Performing Arts, a new venture of the British Phonographic Industry. The historic event was attended by 125,000 people and broadcast live on BBC Radio 1.
The acts in order of appearance were: Tears for Fears, Status Quo, Cliff Richard & The Shadows, Robert Plant (with guest Jimmy Page), Phil Collins (later joined by Mike Rutherford & Tony Banks thus forming Genesis), a supergroup including Elton John, Eric Clapton & Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney & Wings, and Pink Floyd -- easily the greatest gathering of British stars since Live Aid.
