G3 Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci and Joe Satriani - Los Angeles, California 18.03.2007

Band(s): G3: Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci and Joe Satriani
Venue: Orpheum Theater
Location: Los Angeles, California
Date: 2007-03-18

Lineage:SP-BMC-2 w/batterybox>Sony MZG-750 MD>Yamaha DS1>CoolEdit>WAV>shntool>FLAC>MP3

all the notes from the taper/uploader !!! :

Notes about completeness:
Missing : chatter due to disc-change between Always with me Always with you
and Foxy Lady (no music missing).
Fades applied at the beginning and end of each set

Notes about quality:
Recorded from 3rd row balcony centre.
Unfortunately, there are some "issues"...
it seems that the gods were working against me on this night.

First of all, I didn't press the battery connector on correctly at the beginning of the show.
So, everytime I checked to see if the recording was still happening, there is some static on the recording.
This happened only a few times during the Paul Gibert set. I've done my best to resolve the issues.
Still noticable a bit a few times during the first 3 tracks. (it doesn't stop me from enjoying them though!)
(Special thanks goes out to spe672 from http://racerxband.com/board for the patch-pieces about 6 seconds in all)

Then, for some reason, the Joe Satriani set and the Jam are distorted in places.
I recall the show being REALLY loud but I certainly didn't expect it to distort!
the show is still listenable though! Don't get me wrong there. (if it wasn't I wouldn't post it)

Amazing how different the sound is between this recording and the recording of the Anaheim show.
Recorded with the same equipment!

md5 files for the wav files included in torrent
SBEs fixed with shntool

The jam actually starts in Always With Me Always with you.
John Petrucci enters the stage at 3:50

Notes from enchantgy:
Drove from our hotel to the Orpheum. I was using my handheld GPS to find the place
and got a weird feeling from the lack of people and traffic in the area surrounding the Orpheum.
I found a parking-spot just around the block!
When I struck up a conversation with the guy sitting next to me. He asked me where I parked.
When I told him I parked on the street he said "I hope for you its still there after the show".
Since it is our family-mini-van, I had to take a deep breath and swallow hard.
When I got out of the venue afterwards, someone summed up the whole (Vai not being there)
G3 show in two words "Steve Who?" I had to laugh and had to totally agree with him.
I've never been a big Vai fan and was totally pumped to find out that Gilbert had joined G3
and I was able to attend the show because we would be on a holiday in the area.
The show was awesome! I don't want to start a "who's better" war so I am only going to state
that Paul Gilbert impressed me the most.

Since the initial reason for our trip to California was to attend the 25th Randy Rhoads
memorial on the 19th (the next day) and Dream Theater had covered an Ozzy track during a
performance in LA, I was secretly hoping that they would do a (small) tribute to Randy during either G3 show.
I came to the realization, sitting there, that 25 years ago that day
Randy Rhoads was on stage for the last time in his life. This made me wish even harder that
some tribute would be done. But my wishing didn't make a difference. Oh well...
Maybe tomorrow. (nope)
It was a fantastic night just the same!

Back to the van after the show and hoping it was still there. And it was. pfew... what a relief.
And all the tires were still on it too... I got in and started unloading my recording gear as two
motor-cycle cops block the road right next to me. And I go "oh shit!!!" (and locked my doors)
I sat quietly in the van and here comes a helicopter down and lands in the parking-lot right next to my van...
As soon as the helicopter shut off its engine, and the dust settled, the cops left.
I used my handheld GPS to face me in east direction thinking I would eventually hit a freeway
so I could make my way back to Anaheim. BIG MISTAKE! I ended up first going through traffic-lights,
then stop signs and then just intersections with newspapers blowing accross the street.
Not a soul in sight. No cars, no nothing...
I felt like I had entered some kind of war-zone... I turned around and as soon as I got to a more populated
area I had a closer look at the map on my GPS for a freeway on-ramp...
Interesting venture... Not something I care to relive any time soon...

This recording was created for the fans by a fan and should
NEVER be sold but should be traded freely!
