HENRY COW - with friends and family - 1974-1999An overview of the numerous collaborations of ex Henry Cow (and Slapp Happy) members, along with some Henry Cow rarities with Robert Wyatt and the Orckestra.
This is not an exhaustive compilation (the list of Fred Frith's collaborations alone could fit a book), but the gathering of hard to find tracks taken mostly from vinyls not reissued on CD, out-of-print compilations or tracks from the artist's collection. Note that all the recordings here are of professional quality. 3 discs Box set full artwork included, with a 16 page booklet including photos and all credits and details for each track. It was later expanded for CD in 1992 and became well known in outsider circles for its unique concept; a superstar gathering of experimentalists performing 1 minute compositions. An extremely rare 2-CD version was released in 1996, featuring 146 tracks. Taken from a special subscription 1-sided single . When on vacation from The Work (his band with Tim Hodgkinson, Bill Gilonis, and Rick Wilson), Mick Hobbs gathered friends and allies to play music under the Officer! banner. Their first recordings were released on tape by french label AYAA (then called AAA). This very limited edition (500 copies) cassette has never been reissued. Taken from the LP “Recommended Records Quarterly Vol.1 n°3” (1986 Re0103). I was desperately searching for "pictures from the great exhibition" by Lindsay Cooper. I was not sure it only existed, and here it is !!!! And concerning the other tracks, I even didn't know the existence of most of them. And last but not least : the HENRY COW tracks with Wyatt and the Orckestra (never released officially or am I missing something ?) are FANTASTIC ! Worth the entire download alone. A big thank you for all your time and effort, and all the details posted for each track; it helps a lot. |
