Easy:
1. Highlight the files on your hard drive. 2. Right Click. 3. Select delete. 4. Download the music from a lossless source. But don't bother, everyone around here is happy to have mp3's. In fact, if I were you, I would re-encode the files to 64 kbps in .wma format to keep your files as small as possible. This will allow you to save more shows and make your uploads quicker. It's still stereo quality so everyone wins!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

You could even re-encode files down do 40 kbps in wma format. With the original source wav files being 1411 kbps, you've effectively eliminated 97% of that pesky file!! I'm sure the less than 3% left will still sound amazing.

Just trying to help out someone who wants to share. What are you up to - 10 shows you've uploaded? Perhaps he wants to be a big contributor to the community like you. |

Well, considering I first came to this site two months ago, and I have this thing called a JOB, and a LIFE that doesn't always revolve around this website, 10 is pretty decent. I probably haven't downloaded more than 10 or 12 anyway, so i think its a fair ratio. The ratio is what matters, if I downloaded a 100 shows and uploaded 10, your point would be valid...but it's not because that's not the case. Besides, I don't answer to you anyway. You're pretty much always here when I'm here, always bitching about someone or something. You need to get over yourself. There's nothing great about living in your parents basement and having your life revolve around collecting FLAC files and bitching and moaning about how other people choose to collect or what they collect. Obviously you don't get it though. On that note, I'm going to go shower, go out to dinner, and spend a quality evening with my friends. Perhaps I'll be back around midnightish. Don't whine too much while I'm gone. |

The fact is that "lossless" and "lossy" are so called for a reason. It's neither a battle of egos nor a battle of formats. SHN or FLAC for example makes only a small difference in weight, but no difference in quality. Lossy of course can be more or less hugely lossy, but it always involve a degraded quality, by definition. It's just a technical fact, not an opinion. It's not that someone "prefers" a format or another, it's not like preferring a band or another.
Then, of course one can prefer lossy to lossless, exactly like one can prefer dehydrated food to fresh food. Everybody is entitled to his/her own little perversities. The difference is that, while if one likes to eat dehydrated food that doesn't affect anybody else, to spread lossy files may be a problem, because some people appear to not understand the difference and will probably not notify that they are trading lossy. And the global quality thus degrades. Plus, other folks probably collect lossy files only because they do not that better formats exist, or do not know where to get them from or how to handle them, and to discuss the merits of lossless files may be useful to them. So it's fine if you prefer dehydrated food. It's even fine if you convert a show to lossy for your personal use, like listening to it on an iPod etc. But it's just absurd to insult those who try to keep the overall quality as high as possible. Some folks post here in lossless, which is always nice of them. Plus, there are many other places where to collect good shows in lossless and you can acknowledge that as soon as you cease thinking it's a matter of egos or of opinions. http://aikolosslessboots.freeforums.org http://dexondaz.blogspot.com/ http://qualityboots.blogspot.com/ http://zepmasters-quality-zep-boots.blogspot.com/ Please notice that I am not associated with any of them. I am just a collector in my (scarce) free time and I am grateful to the people who trade good music in good formats. |

To actually answer you question (interesting concept, there), there would be no point in converting from MP3 to FLAC because the quality has already been lost in the original compression to MP3. You'd be adding nothing to the files by doing so, other than excess space. But then again, for practical purposes, that's all FLAC ever does to begin with.
Feel free to post your collection anyways (as long as it hasn't already been shared), not all of us are useless, I mean lossless, obsessed and many people would be happy to have them. Though why you'd actually want to do something for these people after the above treatment is beyond me. |
