Janis Joplin Amsterdam Holland 1969

Janis Joplin & The Kozmic Blues Band

This show is amazing, and the recording is crystal clear,
especially for one from 1969.
If you like Janis, this is a must have.

Sam Andrew - Guitar
Brad Cambell - Bass
Richard Kermode - Organ
Terry Hensley - Trumpet
Terry Clements - Tenor Sax
Roy Markowitz - Drums
Cornelius "Snooky" Flowers - Baritone Sax

Setlist:

2. Maybe
3. Summertime
4. Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)
5. Can't Turn You Loose
6. Combination of the Two
7. Ball and Chain
8. Piece of My Heart

This recording is of excellent quality and its a great boot to get, but to me its a very strange sounding phase of Janis Joplin's career. I have her Cheap Thrills lp with Big Brother and The Holding Co, and I love that late 60s San Fran type sound that the group had. This band, the Kosmic Blues band, is a very talented band, but to me they are not a good fit for Janis Joplin. They seem more of a fit for a Ike and Tina Turner type show. A more slick, type sound. I would be shocked to find out that Jopin picked this band for hersellf. Its certainly is different than the earthy, ruff and sloppy sound of Big Brother.
