Discs 7-9: Various Outtakes and Live Sets

This set of archival recordings lets us witness the formation of arguably the most powerful and expressive voice in rock history. From the earliest known performances in the small bars of Texas to the first sessions with Big Brother to her mesmerizing live shows, Janis never left behind her raw roots. She drew upon them to impel emotional performances as if by exposing her pain she gained power over her past and transformed it into a gift. In these newly sourced pearls, we can hear as never before the birth and fast burning flame of Janis Joplin.

Included are outtakes and unreleased songs from the 1968 "Cheap Thrills" studio sessions, demos for the 1969 Kozmic Blues album and vast improvements on all existing vintage (1962-65) live recordings. The vintage recordings, in particular, are wonderful and although we had some of this material from the long out of print "Janis" movie soundtrack vinyl release, this collection has 39 (!) tracks recorded between 1962-65 including the ubiquitous "Typewriter Tapes" made by Jorma. The final CD finally unchains the urgent expression and lets it be heard in a complete Big Brother concert from 1967. Sit down by your window, put this set on, and blow all your blues away.

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR THIS!! But, I'm unable to get disc one. I can download the zipped file, but can't open it. I get an error message that the file is corrupted. Has anyone else had this problem? I haven't tried any of the other discs, yet. But, is there any chance that disc one could please by re-posted? Thanks!

Well, I can't get disc 2 either. Maybe the problem is in my computer. Although I've been able to unzip lots of other rar files from this, and other sites. Oh well.

First file had "an unexpected end" warning and it's missing 3-4 songs
3rd file has same message and was shown to be 96. something megz but the d/l
stopped after 13 or so megz???

Sorry you had those problems, IowaSurfer. But, that seems to confirm that it's not just my computer. I'd also really love to have this set. I haven't tried to download anythig past the second disc. But, obviously disc 3 also has problems. So, I guess I'll make a formal request to please have this set re-posted, if someone would be so kind.

Ok, I just figured out how this system works. I didn't understand that you have to download everything before you can access anything. I've never run across a download done that way. I am a huge Janis fan. I did however notice that some of the songs on here are actually not Janis at all. Some of the takeouts from the Pearl record like Get It While You Can, is not Janis. I have a huge collection and am putting together a good set of some of the best unreleased and rare Joplin material there is out there.
