Michael Schenker / UFO
Hello, are there any good live recordings floating around of early MSG or classic UFO?
Does anyone have a live version of Looking for Love by MSG and Hot `n` Ready by UFO.
Cheers in advance

There's the rather enjoyable "One Night At The Budokan" album featuring the the early MSG touring line up - Schenker, Barden, Powell, Raymond and Glen. I suspect it's available from "most good stockists".
You can also see a video of "Armed And Ready" here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNQBv9TrHw4

Video:
For UFO, there are the bonus songs on the "Strangers In The Night: The Ultimate Critical Review" DVD. There's Doctor Doctor, Rock Bottom, and Space Child live from '74, and a music video for Only You Can Rock Me. You also have the Too Hot to Handle DVD which features live footage of the No Heavy Petting Tour - songs like Let It Roll, and Live Lights Out and Too Hot to Handle from the Lights Out Tour.
For MSG there is the Rockpalast video from '81 - an awesome live concert from the first MSG tour. Songs include UFO hits and MSG songs. This is the only video I know where they play Looking Out From Nowhere. There is also the Rock Will Never Die video from their Built to Destroy Tour - amazing quality VHS with special guests Derek St. Holmes and Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker joining in on Doctor Doctor. Then there's the '83 Dortmund VHS featuring MSG, Scorpions, Ozzy, Leppard, Maiden. Not as good quality but great show.
Audio:
UFO -
On With the Action - Live '76
Big Apple Encounters - Live '75
MSG -
One Night at Budokan - Live '81
Built to Destroy: Original UK Mixes - Alternate Recordings '83
Rock Will Never Die - Live '83

Not early UFO, but an interesting video is the Live at Vic Theatre, Chicago '95 Bootleg. It's basically UFO picking it right back up after Strangers in the Night - the whole band is there except for Andy. Quality is decent and everyone looks healthy and stage ready. Schenker is right on target and they play a ton of songs. My favorite UFO video of all time - it's the Strangers in the Night of UFO videos.

Oh, last thing. There are only 2 live Looking for Loves that I know about. 1 is on a special edition of the Rock Will Never Die VHS with bonus tracks - one being Looking for Love. Good luck getting that, I don't even have it. The 2nd and easier one to get is the MSG Unforgiven World Tour 2000 VHS. Here Kieth Slack (arguably the best vocalist MSG ever had next to Lief Sundin and Robin McAuley) is singing, and in my opinion this is the greatest version of Looking for Love ever. Oh, and as easier way to get it, if you're just interested in Looking for Love, is very simple. Purchase the Michael Schenker live in Tokyo '97 DVD that I'm pretty sure is still being sold - you can probably find it at Best Buy. In addition to an awesome concert, the DVD features 10 bonus songs from the Unforgiven World Tour 2000 VHS, the last one being Looking for Love. As for Hot 'N' Ready live, the only audio I know of is from the Extended Edition of Strangers in the Night - you can find it on iTunes. Well, glad I could help and nice to see another Schenker/UFO fan around.

the UFO at the vic theater in chicago in '95 is incredible, hot sound even it's audience and Schenker is really hot in that show like he always should be (i heard about some Michael's lame performances in the last year..too much drinking maybe...hope that the new band will be put Michael right on track...with Barden, G.Hughes and Simon phillips).
it's a rumour but i hope it's right otherwise he will ruin his career.
to return to UFO, in chicago '95 all the band is hot and very tight finally.

Schenker93, some great info supplied, thanks.
I`ve been a fan of Schenker since about 1980, still my favourite guitarist even though what he records now is a pale shadow of his greatness.
I never got to see 70`s UFO but caught them on their Walk On Water reunion tour.
When Schenker came on stage and started playing, we had to double take as Schenker with slicked back black hair and a pencil thin moustache appeared.
Good show though.
Caught Lookin` For Love on Youtube and his playing was immaculate as opposed to a live boot I heard from the mid 80`s, where he was slightly off.
Cheers for the info

Throughout the later half of the Walk on Water tour, Schenker changed his stage outfit to look like, in my opinion, Frankenstein. Nothing against him though, he still played great. You can see him like this in the 2 UFO bootleg videos from '98 - Live in Germany, and Live in London. I prefer the Germany show but both are superb. Anyway I appreciate sharing my knowledge with other Schenker fans, and no, it's not a rumor. The 2008 MSG album that'll be released in April has been confirmed to feature Gary Barden. I'm actually looking forward to it as a big relief from Jari, the previous singer, who in my opinion couldn't sing for shit. Well, Michael seems to be getting everything back together and is touring as "Michael Schenker and Friends", featuring the vocal stylings of Lief Sundin, the singer from MSG's Written in the Sand album (1996), who I think is one of the best singers MSG ever had. Can't wait to see him come back to the US!

Schenker93,
I can see Frankenstein but I honestly think it was a "Pulp Fiction" thing, especially given the hair.
Go figure.

Yeah, I mean nothing against him, he played great and he's my favorite guitarrist of all time, right before Randy and Eddie. I just thought it was a little strange to change his look mid-tour from clean to, well, you know. He looks the same on the G3 1998 tour too. By the way if you have ever heard of a way to get that show - whether it be audio or video - please tell me. I've been looking for that show forever and it's literally sunken treasure - Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, and Joe Satriani. That tour must of kicked so much ass.....

Schenker93,
Sorry it took so long to answer you.
You can get the Schenker G3 show from Paris here:
http://www.cd-gold.co.jp/
Keep in mind, this is only the MSG show; it doesn't have Satriani or Uli (or whoever was with them). It's the only Schenker/G3 thing I've been able to find.
I've ordered from this company a couple of times and they were great - very fast shipping.
I once found an audio (.MP3) of Schenker/Satriani/Brian May (and maybe someone else) playing the thrill is gone (must have been from the G3 tour) but I can't remember where I found it.
All the best.

Hey vtmishka thnx. That Thrill Is Gone Jam I actually found here - there was a Satriani Thread somewhere with a link to David Van Landing's website, which had The Thrill Is Gone open for streaming.
