I read an interview with the producer of Ozzmosis. He was raving about the drum sound.

Seems he got a pair of old 8-track recording heads, and built a custom 16-track tape machine to record the drums only, and then he used a slower speed to record them, and he
said he could not believe how great the drums sounded by doing that.
