Pink Floyd: Live For A Friend
The Benefit Concert for Robert Wyatt
May 11, 1973
Very Good Audience Source
Robert was the first drummer for Soft Machine, a band contemporary with
Pink Floyd in the late 60s and early 70s. When Robert Wyatt had a near-fatal accident in 1973, Pink Floyd made a special appearance to play a benefit concert for Robert on November 4, 1973. They played two sets, and for these shows they had a back up band: The Soft Machine. The shows raised over 10,000 pounds for Robert's hospitalization. The accident left him paralyzed from the waist down, ending his career as a drummer.
