COMMENT

First things first - the origin of this recording : According to the accompanying notes with this release it states that this was not recorded by O2verload and is included in their "For Your Memories" set only for completeness (adding this recording makes 21 shows out of 21 in the set) - they are not laying claim to the recording, and credit their source fully. A very decent effort and a very respectable, complete recording it is too. The audience are audible throughout but never get in the way of the show, and besides a little background chatter during the piano medley and 'Satisfied', there's not very much worthy of complaint. A little sound wavering during the first song(s) of the sample section perhaps, but very minor. The show is for the most part fairly straightforward, but Prince slightly alters the beginning to incorporate a few riffs from 'Honky Tonk Women' (and the opening few lyrics) and 'Start Me Up' in honour of the Rolling Stones who played the arena the previous few nights. 'Alphabet St' leads into an instrumental 'Guitar' which is stopped abruptly to continue with the 'Alphabet St.' jam before moving onto 'Cream' - started with Prince alone on the guitar and the band only joining in during the first chorus. 'Play That Funky Music' features an appearance from Common who doesn't appear to handle the lyrics to the song to well, instead veering off into a freestyle rap, and again a portion of a Rolling Stones track is dropped in, this time 'Miss You'. A 10 minute piano medley follows, and outwith a very short instrumental portion of 'I Would Die 4 U' proceeding 'Diamonds And Pearls (itself only lasting a few seconds), it's fairly straightforward. Keeping on the "it's very routine" track, the sampler set features nothing out of the ordinary besides Prince using the pre-JW lyric "We gonna show you mothers how to scream" instead of his nowadays more usual change of "We gonna show you people how to scream" - yeah, such a straightforward, surprise free segment that I noticed that. The remainder of the show is good, but very predictable. Overall not a bad show/release, but there are far superior from the London concerts. The release/recording this show is sourced from is listed HERE.
