COMMENT
Where to begin?! Documenting Prince's 2005, 2006 & 2007 TV Appearances, broadcasts and other goodies, this is a gem of a release by Sabotage with consistently high quality sources used throughout the set. I've listed this as EX / EX+ but with the exception of a couple, everything on here rates as EX+. The tracks released via the NPG Music Club back in 2006 (Disc 2, Tracks 23-26) sound average in comparison to almost everything else on here and whilst they are EX, they are lacking. The only other source worth picking up on is the final 'Don't Play Me' from the 2006 Webby's which is sourced from the circulating video recording and suffers from excessive audience noise, with Prince distant and echoed - however, it lasts barely 3 minutes and is of no importance when considering the quality of the remainder of the content here. As with the other "Sound & Vision" releases by Sabotage, the tracks flow seamlessly with only the occasional fade in/out where necessary, however unlike the other "Sound & Vision" releases this isn't presented in chronological order - instead the sources seem to be presented in order of quality beginning with the clear, crisp, stunning clarity of the NAACP broadcast, and ending with the poor-by-anyone's-standards Webby's. The majority of content included here is circulating on numerous other releases, but there are a few which stand-out and deserve mention. Disc 1 is pretty standard fare containing numerous appearances to promote 3121 however it closes with an extremely impressive quality recording of the Versace Couture Spring/Summer 2007 collection soundtrack in pristine, flawless quality. Disc 2 begins with the promo commercial aired for the Super Bowl appearance, and whilst it is an oddity, I could have lived without it as it doesn't work well as part of an audio-only release. Moving on through the Super Bowl itself we finish off the TV broadcasts with the 2007 ALMA appearance. The second portion of Disc 2 focuses on the audio/video released via both 3121.com and NPG Music Club, however the Sky News broadcast of the final 21st September 2007 concert is strangely omitted. No matter as what is here is again of excellent quality both in terms of sound quality and content. The accompanying 14 page booklet and artwork follows in the theme of all other "Sound & Vision" releases containing broadcast dates, shots from each appearance, and various other notes from Sabotage. Overall this is another very high quality release and an excellent accompaniment to the Sound & Vision set. The 2005-2007 era of Prince's studio career may not hold too many memorable moments, but as this release proves, the same live/broadcast era provides an abundance of genius moments. 'Fury' from Saturday Night Live in EX+ quality, anyone?
