COMMENT
An extremely enjoyable Musicology show and a fantastic audience recording. Whilst this can't compete with the sheer clarity and stunningly clear 'Shark Tank' recordings, the quality of the recording is very impressive and worthy of an EX grading. The audience are audible throughout however they do add a nice appreciative atmosphere and the only time they become a little distracting is during the acoustic set of the main 30th May recording. The main focus of this releases is the 30th May 2004 Las Vegas show, and it is a great example of a typical Musicology show from the mid-section of the tour. The first half of the show is pretty much unsurprising with very little out of the ordinary. The horn section appear to have problems during 'D.M.S.R' with Prince calling out for solo's and getting no response, and this is perhaps one of the least horn-heavy shows from the tour. 'Call My Name' gets it's first full band performance and replaces the more usual inclusion of either 'The Question Of U / Whole Lotta Love' and unfortunately slightly slows down what is normally an excellent part of the show before things return to the more normal party atmosphere of 'Let's Work'. There is no encore section with 'Purple Rain' played immediately after the interlude which follows 'Take Me With U'. This release also includes the so-called "acoustic set" from the previous nights show and would have been rather mundane had it not been for a very rare performance of 'When You Were Mine' in the set. The quality of this recording is of similar excellence to the 30th May recording. Finally, Global Funkschool have added the performance of 'The Question Of U' made available via the NPGMC in soundboard quality. The packaging and accompanying artwork are certainly unusual and have a "loony tunes" cartoon theme and there is a nice review of the show from the local newspaper. I actually rate this release quite highly due to the quality of the recording. The content may be lacking in comparison to some other Musicology recordings, however it's an enjoyable document of the tour nonetheless.
