Richard THOMPSON - live in Paris 2003Richard Thompson solo acoustic concert
Paris, "Les étoiles" cabaret, 17 February 2003 Wonderful sound for this audience recording. I'm very lucky to have recorded this concert since the promoter was obsessed trying to prevent bootleging. He was walking in the hall eyeing the public and threatening some people just beneath me ! He even made a public announcement saying he had a technical means to detect bootleggers… I saw several people around me who gave up the idea of recording and packed their MD and mikes. Not me. I didn't care much, because my recording was intended for my own enjoyment and never did I think of making money out of it. I just wanted a souvenir. 5 years after this show, it wasn't released officially so I think I won't do harm to anyone by sharing my recording. I took a lot of time editing it, removing the disturbing audience noise when it was too present. The result is very satisfying to my ears. There are still some imperfections (some cliks and pops here and there, some coughing that I forgot to remove…), but I'm too lazy to work on it again. Enjoy the show. mp3 @ 320 kbps Artwork included, made after the flyer announcing the concert. disc 1 1 - Gethsemane 2- Withered and Died 3 - Cooksferry Queen 4 - Outside of the Inside 5 - Alexander Graham Bell 6 - Genesis Hall 7 - Crawl Back (Under my Stone) 8 - Pharoah 9 - No War Song 10 - introduction : the best 10 songs of the millenium 11 - So Ben Mi Ca Bon Tempo 12 - Shenandoah 13 - Oops… I Did it Again 14 - 1952 Vincent Black Lightning disc 2 1 - The Ghost of You Walks 2 - I Feel So Good 3 - How Will I Ever Be Simple Again 4 - Turning of the Tide 5 - She Twists the Knife Again 6 - Dimming of the Day 7 - Wall of Death 8 - Words Unspoken, Sight Unseen 9 - I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight 10 - I Misunderstood bonus tracks: 11 - Shoot Out the Lights (live at McCabe's January 23rd 1993) 12 - 1952 Vincent Black Lightning (live at McCabe's January 23rd 1993) 13 - I Agree With Pat Metheny (Live recording from the Iron Horse, Northampton MA. 1999) 14 - Sights and Sounds of London Town (out-take from "Semi-Detached Mock Tudor". Thanks for sharing this.
Nice quality especially considering it's an audience recording. Unfortunately I've only seen him live twice. Once in concert in Melbourne - his haunting version of When the spell is broken is still in my mind and I've never heard him do a version a good since then. That's the great thing about about live performances - sometimes when the fates are willing and wind is in the right direction you can really hear something special. Also saw him with Loudon Wainwright III as part of their drunkards tour of Australia where they played smaller pub venues. |

Great concert, and great sound.
After reading your description of the recording, I though it would be rubbish, but I'm glad I gave it a try, because in fact it's a pretty damn good recording ! Thanks for sharing |

Love Oops I Did It Again - even with all the laughter and the audience chorus!! A good solo show demonstrating how talented Mr Thompson is as a guitarist and song writer - many thanks for sharing an dpersevering with recording the show in the first place.
All the best |
