Roger WATERS - Soundtracks, Live Tracks, More Tracks (rarities compilation)Great collection of rarities. 3 themed CDs.
Beautiful cover art with an 8 page booklet, with extensive notes about each song and performance, full musicians credits and photos. The sound is overall excellent, with some variations due to the different sources. CD 1: SOUNDTRACKS 1. Give birth to a smile (alternate take) (1970) Music from "The Body" 2. The hit (1985) Music from the picture of the same name 3-11. When the wind blows (1986) Music from the picture of the same name 12. Knocking on heaven's door (1998) Music from the picture "The dybbuck from the holy apple field" 13. Hello I love you (2007) Music from the film "The last Minzy" CD 2 : LIVE TRACKS 1. The bravery of being out of range live in Berlin, soundcheck 1990 2. In the flesh 3. The thin ice 4. Another brick in the wall part 1 5. The great gig in the sky (intro) 6. Money 7. The powers that be 8. What God wants part 1 Live in Chicago, 24 July 1999 Most of these tracks were played only at the beginning of the "In The Flesh" tour. They don't appear on any official recording. 9. Wish you were here 10. Comfortably numb Roger Waters with the Band Du Lac, live at Highclere castle, 20 May 2006 11. Flickering flame Live at Syd Barrett tribute, London 10 May 2007 12. In the flesh (truncated version) 13. Money 14. Us and them 15. Brain damage 16. Eclipse 17. The happiest days of our lives 18. Another brick in the wall part 2 Live Earth, New York, 7 July 2007 CD 3 : MORE TRACKS 1. The pros and cons of hitch hiking (extended 12" version 1984) 2. Across the universe (Tribute to John Lennon BBC TV show 1985) 3. Me or him-demo (Rockline radio interview 1987) 4. Radio Waves (extended 12" version 1987) 5. Get back to radio (7" single 1987) 6. Going to live in LA (7" single 1987) 7. 4 minutes (video version 1987) 8. Money-1987 version (7" single 1987) 9. Lost boys calling (demo 1998) 10. Flickering flame (demo 2002) 11. To kill a child (limited edition CD single 2004) 12. Leaving Beirut (limited edition CD single 2004) 13. Wish you were here ("Tsunami aid" TV broadcast 2005) ****************************** And now, here are my personnal thoughts about this boot: The artwork is really great, there are even two versions of the front cover for you to choose... I prefer the second one. The booklet is also great, with many details about each track and performance, some interviews and photos. I learned a lot of things. As with many bootlegs there are a few inaccuraries though. Now about the music : CD 1 the soundtracks I love all these tracks. The Body soundtrack is interesting and different than the one found on the "A Treeful of secrets" compilation : at the end of the song, the spoken vocals are heard in the background and the music is more present (on "A Treeful...", it's the opposite). CD 2 : Live Tracks The Chicago 1999 tracks are fantastic. Too bad these tracks were not played on the rest of the "In the Flesh" tour. I would have loved to see them released on the official CD & DVD of the tour. The performance is seamless, as if the tracks were played in this very order, which I doubt. But the editing is very well done. The Band Du Lac tracks were a pain to listen to on the other version I found on the internet : the performance was bad, and the audience noise was very annoying. Here on this compilation, the songs are almost pleasant to hear-the performance is still bad, but sound is clearer and, above all, there's no annoying crowd noise. Don't know if it's another source ? The Syd Barret tribute : it's a very moving performance from Roger Waters, and one of the best version I heard of "Flickering Flame". Sound is excellent. CD 3 : More Tracks Good to see all these tracks gathered on one CD, though they're not that rare. The demo of "Me or him" doesn't have the interview at the beginning nor at the end. I prefer this, music is what matters ! mp3@320 kbps http://rapidshare.com/files/11611649...part1.zip.html http://rapidshare.com/files/11612132...part2.zip.html http://rapidshare.com/files/11612533...part3.zip.html http://rapidshare.com/files/11612972...part4.zip.html http://rapidshare.com/files/11613229...part5.zip.html |

Yes, truly rare stuff.
But not only that. This compilation is very well presented, beautiful design. And sound is throughout outstanding, even the audience recordings are the best version I ever heard. In fact, I already had most of this stuff, but I don't regret downloading this because quality is better and the packaging is so great. Just have to print everything now and I'll have a beautiful box-set, as good as official. Thank you so much |
