Yes, this is the audio ripped from the Super rock 1984 DVD. Ray Kennedy's introduction and shout "and we're gonna rock your socks off!" (duh!) are dead giveaways (as is the date, 12/8/1984!).
What can I say, I have a lot of opinions about this show.
As you alluded to, Ray Kennedy is completely out of place!!
What a dope! This show should have been subtitled "One Night With Dummkopf" (due respect to Falco!). I've heard it called the "Dead Kennedy Tour".
Ritchie Araki says that Kennedy and Dennis Feldman were forced upon Michael by the record company (I guess Chrysalis) because MSG was losing so much money. How adding Ray Kennedy was supposed to make money is anyone's guess.
Throughout the whole show, one gets the distinct impression that Ray Kennedy learned the words to the songs in the hotel room the night before. In the interview he introduces himself as the singer for the "Michael Schenker Band". Even now, if you visit his website, his bio says he was the singer for UFO. No kidding! It's right here:
Raymond Louis Kennedy
But most importantly, in spite of the above comments, I'd say that this may be the
best recorded show of Michael's career. Any fan absolutely MUST get this DVD. It's readily available (for sale!). If you can't find it, let me know and I'll find you a link.
Amazingly, in spite of the reported financial and record label difficulties, Michael's played is incredible in this show. Download the audio here and see for yourself.
His tone and technique are impeccable. At times, he seems like he doesn't want to end songs so there are some extended solos. I really can't say enough about his playing at this show.
The DVD is professionally shot and very well filmed.
Did I mention that Ray Kennedy is a dope?
