The Michael Schenker Group - Seibu Stadium,Tokyo 12/08/1984

THE MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP

Live At Seibu Stadium,Tokyo
on 12th August 1984

Sounboard/excellent quality

Cover Artwork included

MS really smoked on this show, as in the 'Rock Will Never Die' album,
considerin there's no back-up rhythm guitarist here.
(The singer is a bit weak of a weak point here though but not bad for a country
singer)

Note: This show was probably ripped from the Super Rock '84
video(Not sure, just an assumption). But again, this show
might be from a different source from the same show as the interviews
in between( and sometimes in the middle of the song ) are not present here
on this CD.This show also features a different line-up: Ray Kennedy &
Dennis Feldman replacing Gary Barden & Chris Glenn, whom left around March 1984.

Tracklist:

1.Captain Nemo
2.Rock My Nights Away
3.Cry For The Nation
4.On and On
5.Lipstick Traces/Bijou Pleasurette
6.Into The Arena
7.Courvoiser concerto/Lost Horizon
8.I'm Gonna Make You Mine
9.Armed and Ready
10.Doctor Doctor

Line-up:
Ray Kennedy - Vocals
Michael Schenker - Guitar
Dennis Feldman - Bass/Backing Vocals
Andy Nye - Keyboards/Backing Vocals
Ted McKenna - Drums

Yes, this is the audio ripped from the Super rock 1984 DVD. Ray Kennedy's introduction and shout "and we're gonna rock your socks off!" (duh!) are dead giveaways (as is the date, 12/8/1984!).

What can I say, I have a lot of opinions about this show.

As you alluded to, Ray Kennedy is completely out of place!!

What a dope! This show should have been subtitled "One Night With Dummkopf" (due respect to Falco!). I've heard it called the "Dead Kennedy Tour".

Ritchie Araki says that Kennedy and Dennis Feldman were forced upon Michael by the record company (I guess Chrysalis) because MSG was losing so much money. How adding Ray Kennedy was supposed to make money is anyone's guess.

Throughout the whole show, one gets the distinct impression that Ray Kennedy learned the words to the songs in the hotel room the night before. In the interview he introduces himself as the singer for the "Michael Schenker Band". Even now, if you visit his website, his bio says he was the singer for UFO. No kidding! It's right here:

Raymond Louis Kennedy

But most importantly, in spite of the above comments, I'd say that this may be the best recorded show of Michael's career. Any fan absolutely MUST get this DVD. It's readily available (for sale!). If you can't find it, let me know and I'll find you a link.

Amazingly, in spite of the reported financial and record label difficulties, Michael's played is incredible in this show. Download the audio here and see for yourself.

His tone and technique are impeccable. At times, he seems like he doesn't want to end songs so there are some extended solos. I really can't say enough about his playing at this show.

The DVD is professionally shot and very well filmed.

Did I mention that Ray Kennedy is a dope?

Hi vtmishka - Yeah, I still have the Old vhs of that super rock show but it's mono and the sound is a bit muddy but nevertheless, like u've said, the show itself is simply awesome! You can see Ray Kennedy seemed so lost on stage and i've read somewhere that this line-up did recorded 3 new songs.(It'll be a treat to have a listen!) Dennis Feldman was a good addition I thought, plus his vocals are way better then Ray's.

I ordered my DVD of this show from:

Rare Performance DVDs

Price seems reasonable ($15.00). Service / speed was good. This was my experience only - I know nothing else about them.

Here's another link selling it for less ($7.99):
Rock DVD 4u

I ordered something from them yesterday. Haven't yet received it so I can't say anything about them.

It's an incredible show - well worth having!
