The Rolling Stones: The Killer Festival (Altamont,1969) Hell's Angels Murder Show

The Rolling Stones - The Killer Festival (Altamont,1969)
Rock Concert / MP3 / 128 kbps / 71.1 MB / 82:55
Live at the Altamont Speedway, San Francisco, California, December 6, 1969. Meridith Hunter was stabbed to death in front of the stage during "Under My Thumb". This recording captures the mayhem during the concert.
The sound is not great. However, the music really becomes secondary to why you would listen to this. Recorded from the audience, you can hear not only Mick, Keith and Sam Cutler trying to deal with the situation, you can hear the confusion, anger and fear of the crowd, especially those closest to the tape recorder. Fascinating and frightening. It really puts you right there.

Tracks:
Disk 1:
1. Jumping Jack Flash - 3:37
2. Carol - 4:21
3. Sympathy for the Devil I - 3:08
4. Sympathy for the Devil II - 7:27
5. The Sun is Shining aka Got no Place to Go - 7:00
6. Stray Cat Blues - 3:48
7. Love in Vain - 5:41
8. Under My Thumb I - 3:24
9. Under My Thumb II - 3:32
Disk 2
1. Brown Sugar - 4:22 (1st Live performance)
2. Midnight Rambler - 8:07
3. Live With Me - 3:59
4. Gimme Shelter - 4:36
5. Little Queenie - 4:44
6. Satisfaction - 6:35
7. Honky Tonk Women - 4:28
8. Street Fighting Man - 4:27

Please don't be put off by the 128 kbps br. - it is, after all, a 40-year -old bootleg audience recording, which has it pluses as you can hear some of the comments made as the violence escalates. For example, someone can be heard saying "I'm out of here!" and another person exclaims "There's nowhere to go, man!"

Awesome--I'm downloading it now! I used to have this, but lost in in a
hard drive crash-THANK YOU for posting this, I wasn't able to find it
anywhere!

Also interesting from a historical standpoint is that this is the first time
the Stones performed "Brown Sugar" live, if I remember correctly--Mick
actually mentions it in the introduction to the song.

EDIT--oops just saw your reference to that in the song listing!

Thanks for a new perspective on AltaMont.

No more Summer of Love.

Heard the Stones earlier in the tour -
Dallas Texas Southern Methodist University basketball arena.

Pretty wild - cops everywhere.
The audience was smoking on four hose hookahs.
mainlining dope.
cops did not bother anyone.
surprised my young self.

Mick Taylor was there.
Brian Jones had been murdered earlier that year.

Two ways of looking at the same event:
Quote:
"When idealism and anarchy rode together on the same horse and no one was quite sure which was holding the reins."

"A young black man murdered in the midst of a white crowd by white thugs as white men played their version of black music."

BBC RadioScotland documentary, presented by Muriel Gray, about the Rolling Stones' Killer Festival at Altamont, 6 Dec. 1969.
As well as discussing the mayhem that took place at Altamont, the programme has quite a lot to say about the passing of the Hippie Era.
