yenomemo is on a distinguished road
So instead of doing a thread for each post which could get really awkward, whenever I make a Sinatra post from my collection, I'm going to do it in this thread. The first I'll put in this thread is one of my all time favorite Sinatra concerts. This is another Sinatra concert from Radio City Music Hall, 16 years earlier from the one I posted earlier. This is the opening night engagement from Sinatra's October 1978 Radio City Music Hall and he's in GREAT voice and in a GREAT mood. The sound is good. This concert has a lot to recommend it, but one of the more interesting things about it is that here, for the first time, is Sinatra singing "New York, New York" in concert.
It also has a wonderful version of Elton John's "Remember," written specifically for Sinatra.

Here's the setlist:

1-New York New York
2-Night And Day
3-At Long Last Love
4-The Lady Is A Tramp
5-Someone To Watch Over Me
6-Here's That Rainy Day
7-My Funny Valentine
8-Baubles, Bangles, and Beads
9-The Gal That Got Away/It Never Entered My Mind
10-Monologue
11-That's What God Looks Like
12-Maybe This Time
13-Autumn In New York
14-You And Me
15-The Tender Trap
16-Lonely Town
17-The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game In New York
18-Remember
19-My Way
20-America The Beautiful
21-I Love New York Instrumental
22-Closing Theme

The next offering from my collection is yet another Sinatra concert in New York City, this one from Carnegie Hall, April 1974. Sinatra had just begun to perform in concert again that January after ending his 1971-3 "retirement." This was recorded by and was to be released officially on Reprise Records, but Sinatra later kiboshed it in favor of releasing "The Main Event" as his "live" album. This is, in many ways, superior to "The Main Event." The song choice is a little more varied, Sinatra is in better voice, and it has his outstanding "Saloon Trilogy" concert piece. This was the night Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's record and there's a neat little moment where Sinatra is the one to announce it to the tuxedoed Carnegie crowd.

The setlist:

1-Overture
2-Come Fly With Me
3-Don't Worry Bout Me
4-I Get A Kick Out of You
5-If
6-Bad Bad Leroy Brown
7-Saloon Trilogy (Last Night When We Were Young-Violets For Your Furs-Here's That Rainy Day)
8-Monologue
9-My Way
10-You Will Be My Music
11-I've Got You Under My Skin
12-Send In The Clowns
13-That's Life
14-Encore Intro
15-There Used To Be A Ballpark
16-My Kind of Town
17-Outro

I will post the lossless link very shortly.

Following up my previous post, the 1974 Carnegie Hall concert, I thought I'd post the 1980 Carnegie Hall Concert. Sinatra in 1980 was enjoying a vocal, musical, and commercial renaissance and this concert shows why. He's on top of his game here, with great songs, many of which were from his then-newly released album Trilogy. Unfortunately, the two instrumental selections from the concert were not on the copy I possessed. The sound is good. Standout tracks include "Summer Me, Winter Me," "I Can't Get Started," and "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry." This is probably one of his best post-retirement concerts.

Setlist:

1-I've Got The World On A String
2-The Best Is Yet To Come
3-The Lady Is A Tramp
4-When Your Lover Has Gone
5-This Is All I Ask
6-I've Got You Under My Skin
7-Summer Me, Winter Me
8-Street of Dreams
9-The Gal That Got Away/It Never Entered My Mind Medley
10-I Can't Get Started
11-Send In The Clowns
12-Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry
13-You And Me
14-The Song Is You
15-New York, New York

I'm back after too long of an absence with more Sinatra goodies.

This particular offering is from an October 12, 1974 show at Madison Square Garden, the night before Sinatra's televised Main Event show from the very same venue. Sinatra was in bad form on the actual televised concert, so Reprise Records, which had professionally recorded all of the shows from the Main Event tour, substituted certain songs from earlier performances on the released album, one of which came from the show the night before. Although somewhere in the vaults a professional recording of the October 12, 1974show exists, all that is available is this audience-made recording. Sinatra is in much better voice on this night than on the televised concert, the setlist is slightly different than the released Main Event concert, and though it is an audience-made recording, the sound is fair-to-good. Some of the occasional audience comments are hysterical, with one of the audience members sounding like a Sopranos extra.

I hope you enjoy.

Setlist:

1-The Lady Is A Tramp
2-I Get A Kick Out Of You
3-What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?
4-Bad Bad Leroy Brown
5-Let Me Try Again
6-Send In The Clowns
7-My Kind Of Town
8-Monologue
9-Autumn In New York*
10-If
11-I've Got You Under My Skin
12-Angel Eyes
13-The House I Live In
14-You Are The Sunshine Of My Life
15-My Way
*was used on the released "Main Event" album

This is an audience-made recording of a concert Sinatra gave in May of 1970 at Royal Festival Hall with the Count Basie orchestra, augmented by a string section. Sinatra reportedly considered this concert the finest he ever gave. It's certainly one of his best. He is in phenomenal voice, particularly for 1970, and is in a wonderful mood. This concert is notable for being one of the few occasions where he sang songs from his mostly forgotten "Watertown" album live--and far excels what he put down on record, IMO. Sinatra also sings Try A Little Tenderness accompanied solely by guitarist Al Viola. Sinatra with solo guitar=magic. He also sings a dynamite "On The Road To Mandalay" and explains to the audience beforehand why the record he made of it was banned in the UK.

This IS an audience-made recording, and the sound is not perfect, but the band and Sinatra are audible, if not sharply so. Some of Sinatra's spoken comments necessitate some close listening. All in all though, the perfection of Sinatra's performance comes through very nicely.

Enjoy what Sinatra called his "finest hour."
