EJ Funky Bluesy Jam
Hey Guys,
here's the bluesy funky jam for you all to finally hear! This turned out exceptionally well with everyone really coming up with the goods! I was very pleased with the standard of jams here - they rock!
As usual, lots of different styles and the jam is all the better for it, the BT was relentless and needed some really hot playing to cut through, everbody did this and then some, so enjoy!
Slots:
0:00 - 0:35 Elecjoy
0:35 - 0:58 Satchmo
0:58 - 1:21 Pranav
1:21 - 1:44 Axe2Grind
1:44 - 2:07 Chris Guitar
2:07 - end rjfoster
Elecjoy: I overshot my mark by about 2 seconds LOL, so I had to fade out into Satch's - that's "head down going for it" playing for you LOL!
Satchmo: Your tone was really dirty and earthy which is a pretty brave tone to go for but you dug out the phrases well! I liked the whole vibe as it has a real early blues quality to it... I could imagine you in a club in the 50's knocking out a solo like that!
Pranav: Mate, you totally excelled yourself here and stretched right out . I think you need to resolve some tone issues but your playing is clean and melodic. The picking run at the end was brilliant and a nice contrast to the tapping craziness at the start.
BTW, I mixed yours a little hotter than the rest because after your first harmony, the level droppped right out... so your a bit loud coming in after Satch.
Axe: This jam is much better than the first solo you sent me... i'm actually pretty happy you ended up redoing it LOL. Excellent balance of speed licks and choppy blues phrasing. The harmonised tapping was awesome ;-)
Chris: Mate, killer jam. You have really natural rock phrasing and the first lick had me going "uh oh" LOL. Your obviously a seasoned player if you came up with this in a few minutes! Great tone also - you'll have to give me the lowdwon on your set up!
RJ: Phrasing with attitude and grease. This reminded me of Billy Gibbons on Rio Grande Mud. You have real ability to pull classic phrasing out with conviction. Loved it mate!
Cheers Si.

Guys, Definately agree that this one turned out superb. Such a great blend of tones and styles, everyone played very well...I personally learn alot from listening to others and this is a great way to get ideas.
0:00 - 0:35 Elecjoy - Mate, if you were not happy with your take, you must be crazy ! LOL. fantasic intro, You definately have your own style with some of those signature licks, tone and finesse, very inspiring and jaw dropping .... Awesome as always Si.
0:35 - 0:58 Satchmo - Satch, a great contrast to EJ's, more laid back and traditional with great tone. very nice bluesy rock with attitude.
0:58 - 1:21 Pranav - Pran, definately some of the best playing I've heard from you bro. Loved the harmony runs and stuff, lots of ideas in there which were very cool. You've come such a long way in a short space of time.
1:21 - 1:44 fast forward past me....>>>
1:44 - 2:07 Chris Guitar - There, I knew it....fantastic phrasing and loved that tone, +1 for knowing the gear you used. Loved the extra voices you threw in at the end of your take...fantasic mate, despite your own opinions.
2:07 - end rjfoster - RJ, you are a fantastic tasteful player mate. very tasty grooving playing and lovely tone. loved every note of this.
Well, another successful EJ jam in the bag, once again thanks to the maestro Si for putting it together and the mixing job, great fun as always, and hope we hear a lot more of Chris as well. Great stuff guys.

Thanks for the comments mate! I'm rooting around some CD's for the next one, before the baby turns up!
Cheers Si.

this was a great jam with some realy diffrent styles of playing from everyone, its great to get an insight on how others aproach the same backer and everyone put diffrent ingredients on the table and it worked realy well, a special thanx to elecjoy for putting in the hard work to arrange and mix it which he did a great job.
ELECJOY.. starts us off with some well tasty chops that lick at 4 seconds is killer, your whole part had pure taste combined with great skill awsome job mate.
SATCHMO, shows us that traditional blues/rock playing still sounds great, tasty chops and a great sence of space i cant fault it at all well done m8ty.
PRANAV, the opening run is sick, if there was a trophy for most improved player on this site youd be a strong contender your like 10 times better than you were this time last year, i digged all of your take it had loads of attitude mixed with great tech, great stuff
AXE2GRIND, pure taste all the way through, it sounds very natrual as well some damn fine axe work, without any doubt your a great player the lick at 1.32 is very special folowed by a great tapping run awsome stuff mate.
RJFOSTER, had beautiful phrasing you can certainly make that axe sing and a great glassy tone as well awsome work from a damn fine player well done m8ty.
axe and elecjoy, i just used a boss gt8 direct into my compter i allways add a boost at 60 hz (knicked the idea form vai) as it gives a lot of fattness also i boosted the high mids whilst roling off the highs, the gt8 does sound preety sweet, the presets are crap but with a lot of fiddalin around its given me better results than i ever acheived with me pod xt as its more in ya face if u know what i mean, anyway great jam guys ill sure be up for another sometime as its great fun

Well, its very rare that I play something I am completely happy with, good to see all levels of players suffer from that too. Oooh once that little bubba turns up, bang goes your play time, and sleep time LOL. Hope that all goes well mate, its always a tough period, new born's eh !. Thanks for your comments too.
Chris, Thanks for your comments too, wow the GT8 does sound great, I thought you might have been playing through a stuck wah setting like those (Keeley NovaWah's) as it had that sound (a bit Vai like too). Thanks for the insight mate.

Thanks Chris, Axe and Satch... yep when the new bundle of joy turns up, my guitar goes into storage!
Thanks for the info Chris. I have to admit i've never really had enough money to invest in gear... it used to be literally guitar + amp, now it's guitar(s) + guitarport LOL... do spend a great deal of time in Soundcontrol though... you'll see me at the back drooling!
I sold all my guitars (bar a Squire Strat) to buy a Carvin, but hardly use it! One day I hope for a Mesa Boogie and a PRS! Meantime Squier and Guitarport will have to do!
Cheers Si.

Jeff, Thanks for the comments bro, really appreciate it ...
Si, I think they'll be times when you can whip the guitar out for a quick noodle as long as you pull your weight with the poo poo nappy changes.LOL and me too with the PRS, I'd like the Single cut with trem, nearly conned the wife the other day in getting one, but she looked at the price tag. At the moment I'm playing through a little Roland Micro Cube but been buying some nice pedals to put my axe through before it reaches the micro, currently putting together a little pedalboard, and then one day will get a Marshall Modern Vintage head and this little thing called an Axetrak cabinet which you can use to crank the amp but record silently, perfect for a house with kids...

I was considering selling my Carvin and trying for Custom 24 from Ebay. PRS have a number of different neck shapes though, so I'll need to try a few first (at full price in a music shop ) before grabbing one from America for a few thousand less!
Cheers Si.

Carvin's are awesome, but saying that I did sell the one I had as well. PRS are quality, Custom 24 is a nice choice, but the Jonny Hiland model for me is better, I played one and it was awesome. I think that's the one I'd get (not the single cut, too heavy). dude, If I win the lotto tomorrow, I'll come up to Birmingham and we'll go shopping...seriously, but the chances are very slim LOL.
If you do get one from the states, beware the taxes involved, they can be hefty. A mate of mind just bought an Eric Claptop Martin acoustic, which cost a lot less than buying in the uk but he had to pay 400 quid on his doorstep when it was delivered...

I read the review of the Hiland model in Guitarist... but I can't get on with Maple fretboards! LOL, guitar shopping with pots of money sounds like a blast... of the odds weren't 60 mill to one I'd be getting quite excited!! LOL.For £750 I can get a brand new Custom 24 from the USA, even if I had to pay a few hundred on delivery it still works out a shitload cheaper than buying new here. To be honest I could fly to America, pick one out and fly back cheaper than buy a new on here in the UK.A bit shit really, for us Brits!Cheers Si.

Killer jam I'm glad I got a heads up to check this out because I haven't been on much, love the vartiety of solos here, made for a great listen.
elecjoy: that was some fun playing my friend to say the least, like to hear you go at it with a little more room than the 30 seconds here because you sound like a monster Chris as usual brilliant playing m8 tone was a bit brite for you but playing was still champ
