Oh man, that would have made it a better song!
"I saw her today..at the pet store...
A beef-flavored rawhide in her paw..."
etc. If you work up the music for that tune, SG, I will work out the remainder of the spoof lyrics and do my best mick jagger vocals, and we'll post it!

Van Halen.... Jump
The real lyrics were
Jump, might as well jump
But I heard them as
Jump, Maxwell, Jump
I was only 10 at the time!!!

The Eagles - Hotel California,
Real words - "Warm smell of palitas..." what ever they are...
Wife heard - "Warm smell of police men..." presumably a dough-nut reference...

on tom petty's cd "the last dj" there is a song called the man who loves women
i always thought it said
"homo's stay away he's the man who loves women"
but it really says

Bush - Everything Zen
the line goes:
"Try to see it once my way
Everything zen
Everything zen
I don’t think so"
But when I was younger, 7, to be exact, I thought he said
"Trusting in my way" - he sorta mumbles
nothing big but, yeah, we all make mistakes... Don't Hate!

This would have made the song a lot more romantic

I heard this same story from my friend whom I think actually played in that band too, whether he got it from some place else or was the same friend that you know, I'm not sure but, I also understand that the guy asking for the song also said "Everybody knows that one!...SLOW MOTION WALTER.....THE FIRE ENGINE GUY!!!!" When I heard this from my friend I ROFL! My friend travelled to see my band play the weekend he told me this story and we actually played Smoke on the water in our last set so naturally that night I had to sing that line for him!! LOL

This would make an interesting trivia like game...match the misheard lyric to the song...

Train - Drops of Jupiter
I thought I heard - "Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded, and Van Halen is overrated"
I thought, "Those @(&*ers!"
actual lyrics - "Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded, and that heaven is overrated"

Me too!!!!! I always joked with my lady that I hated this group because they were biased against Van Halen.
