This was the first original tune I ever recorded.

It is a bittersweet tale of a great friend who has become an even greater drinker. He is not well but he won't help himself. On the upside he is one of lifes great storytellers and many of the references in the lyrics below are from anecdotes he has told me in the past.

THE BUTCHER

I got myself a new job, It's easy to cut up a cow
And though I don't smell too good, My friends are getting used to it now
I'll survive, I could change
But I wouldn't change a thing.

I bought myself a new car, On money that don't stretch very far
They gave me three years to pay, I'm paying double buy hey, that's ok

Careful of that buzzsaw or your fingers will fall on the floor
The abattoir is not someplace to play
The animals they fear the reaper as they come to meet their maker
But the butcher smiles as it hits the tray.

Is this ok? No it ain't ok - but it pays.

I better prop up the bar, with friends that always live in a jar
And toast to everyones health, with no fear of getting left on the shelf
I won’t survive, but I wont change
I wouldn’t change a thing.
