Ok as you can probably tell I'm after a new amp. I'm pretty sure I want an all tube amp because any solid state amp I play lately just sounds really "stale" and I'm hoping an all tube amp can fix that.
I play a bit of everything really so I dont want an amp thats good at just one thing. I play quite a bit of heavy metal so it needs to have a good chug but also play some solos so it also needs nice highs.
How would you describe the difference between the 4x10 and something with 12 inch speakers instead? I have been liking the sound of 10s each time i get a chance to use them lately and i am thinking of getting a good combo with 10s but i am unsure if i will still get enough - definition i suppose - out of them. What do you think. I play rock like, um, bryan adams and the beatles and nirvana is about is heavy as i get. I write music kind of like weezer or bush-ish - sort of modern rock.
The 4x10 is out of my price range but I would definately be lookin at it if it was in lol. Does that peavey have a nice clean tone? Did I mention I want a very nice clean sound... If not, now you know haha. Hence why I was lookin at fenders.
Ok that post hardly makes sense. Sorry, I had about 30 seconds to write it.
So I was looking at Fenders because I've heard they have a really nice clean tone. I want the best clean tone I can get because, the way I see it, I can just put a distortion pedal infront of it to get a heavy sound but if i have an amp with a crap clean tone, I can't put any pedal infront of it to fix that. Correct me if I'm wrong about that.
I should also mention that right now I have a Vox AD50VT and also the Vox AD100VTH. I still like the AD50VT but the AD100VTH seems to get very muddy and loose. My plan is to get rid of them both and buy one better amp.
From further research I have also put the Peavey Valveking and the B52 AT-112 on the list. Would anyone recommend these over the Fenders?
The valvekings are all made in china...To my ears they sound a little muddy and not clear like the US Peavey amps (JSX, 6505). Try looking at some second hand amps or little low wattage boutique amps before you hit the big music stores.
The Carvin Legacy is a really great Hi Gain amp with an amazing clean sound. I dont own one but I do have my eye on one and have played through a bunch of them. You won't really find them in major retail stores but if you have the chance to play one, you will be impressed. I believe there are some sound clips on Carvins website...
Try a Roland JC-120 or Fender Ultimate Chorus, or Princeton Chorus, these amps produce the absolute cleanest sounds available
