wtf are screamo and core?
Yes.

Im into bands like chimaira, ill nino, slip knot, mushuggah ect.....I am almost 40 years old so many different influences come out in my songwritting. I think that too many people get a liitle "set in their ways" as we get older, some of my friends, that are my age do not listen to the newest bands and its too bad because they have become a little more closed minded and dont even realize it. Shadows fall has a song called Ghosts of past failures, it is 80's and the modern metal style mixed.

I check out the new stuff from time to time but must admit that much of it is just garbage to me. Especially the stuff on mainstream radio. Streaming radio on the internet is a bit different...
I'm currently REALLY into Shadows Fall right now. Been in a metal mood for about a week now. Old Metallica and Megadeth, Pantera's Vulgar Display cd, Shadows Fall, Judas Priest, Maiden, etc.

Anywho, I'm moving this discussion to the Bands and Artists room.
I like metal.. well.. I like megadeth, not a big fan of many other metal bands.

Megadeth is, or was, awesome. They are still ok...

What about Diamond Head, Iron Maiden, and all the rest of the nwobhm? The *real* heavy metal...

Nope Not at all :p
<----See sig.....I try to listen to new stuff but it just lacks substance and can't even compare to hard rock & metal of the 80's. There are a "small few" of newer metal bands that I like but most to me are crap.:icon_peac
Sucka, I'm with you. I really like Shadows Fall. They're heavy but have good musicianship.

I'm a balls-out metal fan myself—I like my guitars huge and loud!

i was big into metal throughout the 90's. stuff like machine head, pantera, coal chamber, snot, pro-pain, slayer, megadeth, judas priest, king diamond, fear factory, many more. went to all the ozzfests up till 2000. i'm not as angry now as i was as a teen so i kinda fell out of listening to it all the time.

diamond head is ok, but I wont buy a cd just to listen to them. Maiden falls under my classic rock gerne :)
I listen to pretty much everything thats mentioned above. I do like shadows fall but it just sounds like something i heard growing up; its an 80's metal album done by a band of today....lol As for new bands thers a few that are good but the majority are just a carbon copy of an imitation. For metal I love megadeth - pantera - sabbath - maiden - slayer - the usual suspect bands that really you cant argue are the best metal bands of all time. I like diamond head but for what its worth metallica ripped them off so much you might as well listen to metallica. I cant think of a new metal band that I really like - in flames but they are actually old, oh Mastodon - they rock check them out - some real good guitar and drumming. Emo music - some of the bands are good but to me its just a bunch of bad singers who cant sing in key...... I generally like a little crazier stuff Fantomas, dillinger escape plan, Mr Bungle, naked city, Strapping young lad ( devin townsend's band In case you didnt know) soundtrack composers Zorn, schifrin, fruscainte's solo albums, superjoint ritual. A good ol canadian screamo type band is alexisonfire. I like that southern tinged sludge metal or whatever you wanna fuckin' label it bands like - Down, COC, BLS any ZAKK shit, Jerry cantrell, crowbar - Somebody mentioned King diamond oh yeah and merciful fate great stuff - Overkill a real underrated metal band who stuck to their guns for the past 20 odd years. There is some goood music but sometimes you gotta dig to find the real music and not except the shit they force feed you on the radio and mtv.

Well if you are happy listening to the butchered version of those few songs Metalica "covered" then that will do. Metalica couldn't even cover themselves without fucking it up.

I mean, you could say the same about the Misfits, Motorhead, Budgie, Blitzkreig, etc...Great bands that are mostly known only by their songs butchered by the Metalicmyass poser wanna be a band dickheads. (Well Motorhead and maybe Misfits are known a bit) These bands deserve better damnit!!
I think everybody who listens to metal should own a Diamond head cd. If more people actually heard Diamond Head they wouldnt believe how much Metallica ripped them off and many other british metal bands. I really believe that some of these bands should file copyright infringment on metallica. They Talk about people stealing other peoples music ( filesharing) and they go out rip off british bands and change a chord here and there and arrange it abit and call it their own music. My case in point - Welcome home sanitarium sounds mighty fuckin close to NWOBM band Bleak house's "rainbow warrior' check it out for yourself; if you can. I think diamond head were one of the best NWOBM bands to come out. I dont like the metallica versions better - but i do like the power they put into them. Diamond Head really should put out a remastered best of compilation over here (the states - canada.) they just sound so weak. Its hard when fucking record companies dont release influential bands records here. How are they suppose to get a following? They rather push the money whore (metallica) and take all the kiddies money with a known product and hide the inspiration for it. At least Dave mustaine takes diamond head on the road tries to get younger kids into them and lets them know who lit the fire under his ass. There is so many unknown bands that should get their props - Motorhead being one, the grammy was a joke but at least it was a nice tip of the hat to one of the most unrelenting, uncompromising bands to hit the stage.

funny funny - somebody else has the heard the same songs and drew the same conclusions...... here ya go

Excuse me but I thought the whole point of metallicas garage days releases was to pay homage to their influences and raise awareness of where they developed their music from. They never tried to hide it (In fact I was sick of hearing about it in every lars interview during the 80's) but to a lot of people here in the uk - metallica introduced Diamond Head to a whole new audience. People love to kick metallica these days - but Diamond Head never released anything as good as Masters Of Puppets imo.

Metallica are an easy target after Lars fucked up with the napster thing. Trouble is everybody seems to ignore the good stuff they have done and concentrate on slagging the band for the Load, Re-Load St Anger etc. Personally I believe they are bouncing back and they have good stuff to come. The last album was a patchy because of the open session style writing. Now James is on an even keel I am hopeful that something good will come of it. And their new bassist is a monster.

back to the point, I can't see how metallicas success is distrespectful to their influences. I don't like their latest stuff but I can't ignore how fucking amazing and ground breaking they were from kill em all to the black album. And I am sorry but I still like them!

I like the diamond head songs the way they are. Everyone is diffenet I guess.

Metallica was cool until they ran out of the material that Mustain wrote and lost the only member who knew anything about music (Burton). Justice was about the last decent record they released.

What really bugs me about Metallica's covers is for one nobody seems to know who wrote those songs. Case in point, ask anyone to name a Budgie song...then ask them who wrote "Crashcourse in brain surgery" or "Breadfan"; I bet they say Metallica or at best don't know.

Also, James can't sing worth shit. After hearing the originals I realize this quite obviously. The original bands had great singers with style and tone; two things James just does not have. Listen to how damn often James does that growl to make up for his lack of tone! Its like every other damn word!

And what the hell made them think they could cover "Die die die my darling"?!!?!! That is the absolute worse cover I have ever heard. That song especially makes them look like a bunch of hacks. I don't know what is worse, James's singing or their complete inability to capture any of the original feel to that song. It is really quite terrible.

The Garage Days Revisited was a decent record. They're covers on that tape are just different, not terrible, but they still don't compare to the originals. Now days they just suck. They seem to have gotten into the "Were fucking famous and brilliant musicians" attitude and really they just keep getting worse.

I guess the 90 million cds Metallica sold are testament to people having no taste.
