The Ghost Of Tom Joad Tour 1995-97
At the beginning of the solo tour 'Ghost Of Tom Joad' Springsteen also guest in Austin, Texas. In the small Music Hall with its 1,800 seats, he played a standard set of these days with the new song "Sell It And They Will Come", which he only plays live for the sixth time. At the end of "My Best Was Never Good Enough" Bruce made no motion of leaving and a roadie in the back could be seen holding the curtain open for someone. Saying that there are many singer-songwriters from Texas that he's felt a kinsphip with for years, Bruce asked the crowd to give a warm welcome fro Joe Ely. The choice of "Blowin' Down The Road" had everyone scratching their heads. Over the years, this traditional tune has turned into "Goin Down the Road, Feelin' Bad" (as done by the Garteful Dead), but this rendition was much truer to the Woody Guthrie recording "Blowin' Down the Road (I Ain't Going to be Treated This Way)". Bruce and Joe sang around one mic and extended the chorus.
