Hey everyone,

Rjfoster and I collaborated on this one. He layed down the guitars on a backing track and I did the vocals. Hope you like it.

To be honest, I think the vocals are better than the guitar. The way you recorded the guitar sounds way too harsh on the ears.It sounds to me like you have serious clipping issues. If you were to remix this or, if that's not possible, rerecord the guitar to sound as good as the vocals then I'd give it serious kudos. Sorry but I cannot stroke you and tell you this totally rocks. I listen to this 2x and the guitar is just not recorded well and is very irritating to listen to.

The guitar was definitely a heavier sound than the original but I didnt hear the clipping. I guess I disagree on the guitar recording. I appreciate your opinion though stingx. I guess ill let rjfoster respond to this.

I thought it sounded pretty good. Oh well.

RJ, I am glad you feel that way. I am not taking a shot at you guys here. Just giving my honest critique. I always ask for honesty when I submit tunes and assume others post theirs in hopes of receiving the same. There are a lot of merits on that recording.

Yes, the guitars did come out quite a bit distorted and "grumbly" sounding. I was attempting to achieve the same tone that Niel gets in his original version of the song. (I used a setting in the CyberTwin that emulates an amp that is way over driven / has blown speakers.) In otherwords the clipping was by design on my part. I'll post a copy of the original below so you all can hear it and then let me know if I was way off base. I had kind of hinted to rjmjajrj that I was interested in re-doing the guitars for this one anyway. I think i could do better on this one though

Here's the clip of the original tune:

PS: I never take offense to postive feedback / criticism Stingx - thats how we all improve our playing / singing / technique!

Hey Rjmr - can you send me a copy of the song with just your vocals? That way I can re-do the guitars if necessary. I really don't think I could possibly live with myself unless we get "serious" kudos from stingx! :) :)

Thanks everyone! Your comments are much appreciated! Niel Young is an old favorite of mine. In fact, he taught me to play guitar - problem is that he dosent know that! :)

Ditto for me as well (except that I do kind of like Neil Young, but not on the whole....just particular tunes of his that are really good.....like this one!). This tune is actually on my 4-mile-long musical to-do list and i have already found a great MIDI file to work with. I heard this tune last night on VH-1's top 100 heavy bands of all time (or something like that) and it reminded me how good of a song it is. I've got nothing but kudos to offer here fellas (both guitar and vocals). :icon_thum

This is a great version of a great song. The guitars sound just about on the money to my ears and the singing is sweet! I know where Stingx is coming from and he did a great version of this a few months back but I like the guitars on this - simply because NY is an uncompromising bastard at the best of times and he really does go all out for distortion when he does this live. Thanks for the comments KC - mucho appreciated! I think I still have the BT that I used to make this around here (some where) I'm sure a search of the hard drive will find it. If ya want a copy, let me know and I'll post it up for ya.
