I wish I had better luck with the effects loop on my Crate 120w stack. I tried running my pedals, chorus, delay, & noise gate through it and oh my god the hum was worse than it is just going between my guitar and amp! What could I be doing wrong? The instruction book for my crate told me which way to hook it up but it sounded terrible.

Riff, if you aren't using your effects with batteries, try that. Sometimes a poorly filtered wall wart will cause nasty hum. If that doesn't help, try one effect at a time to see if one is causing the noise. also try different patch cables.

Try with batteries? Ok, I use AC adapters because batteries have such a short life span in pedals. I never thought of hooking up one pedal at a time to rule out one that could be causing the hum...thanks for the advice.
