You need to highlight what you want to fade in or out first, then go into Amplify, and select the setting. I use it a lot when transitioning a tune from rhythm to a solo unless I deliberatly play the rhythm backing under the solo. Cool Edit rocks!
Oh yeah, one of my favorite functions is what can be found in amplitude. I love the dynamic processing tools especially the "vocal compressor (great)". I run allot of stuff through that (including guitar tracks) then run "clip restoration" and it really brings the sound out of the shadows. -then you can put on the effects and it just sounds pro.
