At least thank the people who acknowledged your post. Just writing "Bump" after someone has taken the time to check out your stuff and leave a comment just makes it seem like you are only after attention and want to hog up the front page. :icon_neut
Agreed. I think his ego is overloading his ass...... could really use a course in manners ......... be a cold day in hell before i would EVEN consider listening.

Hey now wait a second....you guys are out of line....I have posted and made comments and thanked most every poster. I sincerely appreciate anyones listen and am like no other here in that I like feedback. Now this is the second shot you have taken at me and I think you need to read before you start with these types of snotty remarks. I have the desire to learn and if I can offer anything I will do so and with tact and decency. Untill you see otherwise I would humbly ask you to back off these types of shots as I dont feel I deserve them.
Thanks
Mark

Obviously not on this thread...that has been an oversight forshadowed by your "reprimand" and the Insulting comments from the followup gentleman vintage gnat.

c'mon guys. i dont think posting bump is a big deal

the more comments the better. whenever i post here i rarely get any replies, maybe its my posting of bump, but its also insulting to the topic creator when there is 200 views and like 2 replies. it makes it seem that people just enter the topic and leave without listening.

so you guys should get your heads out of your asses

just my opinion

wow buddy, your bad now. what makes you a real asshole, and idiot in this post is the fact that you don;t wanna listen just because someone posted a internet term in the topic. :icon_roll

It is when you are hogging up the boards with 9 posts in 3 days.....let me say that again....9 POSTS! Normally people only have 1 to 3 posts total on this board at a time.....But 9!!!! I asked him nicely to chill out on the mega-posting and just spread them out a bit over time. So what's he do the next day (after posting 5 the first day)....he posts 3 more...and 1 more yesterday.

You should check the stats before you make a remark like that. Let me spell it out for you...

Highway Star: 11 replies...no "thanks"...just "Bump"

Kashmir: 10 replies...no "Thanks" but a passage you wrote about yourself...plus "Bump"

Original tune "Something New":...6 replies...no "Thanks"....just "Bump"

Immigrant Song: 17 Replies....first "Thanks You" that I've seen...plus "Bump"

The Trooper: 1 reply....no "Thanks"

7 Seas of Rhye: 2 replies....no "Thanks"

Limelight: 3 replies...2nd "Thank you" i've seen

While I respect all opinions and do not discourage anybody's, my opinion is that Phrygian is a bit too into himself and not enough into what this site has to offer or the wonderful community members and their talent featured here. While Phrygian claims to have left replies for others, the stats state it plain and clear:

Phrygian has received 57 replies total to his 9 posts in three days and has only left 4 replies to anyone else's posts (one of which was actually more of a plug for himself stating that he would be happy to sing on a Van Halen cover).

If you don't believe me, check out his stats, which are available to anyone...
http://www.guitars101.com/vb/search.php?searchid=48941

I have a rule of thumb that says, "if you are not receiving at least 10% reply on your posts, then you are either a really shitty musician (usually not the case) or you are not participating enough or are not mingling enough with the community"

Here are Phrygian's stats:

Far Beyond the Sun: 8 Replies / 110 Views Under 10%
Highway Star: 12 Replies / 141 Views Under 10%
Kashmir: 17 Replies / 211 Views Under 10%

"Something New": 7 Replies / 71 Views
Immigrant Song: 19 Replies / 193 Views
The Trooper: 1 Replies / 37 Views Under 10%
7 Seas of Rhye: 2 Replies / 37 Views Under 10%
Limelight: 4 Replies / 53 Views Under 10%
Summer Song: 4 Replies / 52 Views Under 10%

You know what? That is a lot of effort to go to just to be rude and insulting.
I dont know about you buddy, but I work....and I work at an avg of 14 hrs per day with no internet time. I found this place and being into recording covers and have done many many over the years I have a ton to post. So in my excitment I posted a bunch ...what 5 or 6 and yhen comes my first lashing. So I post no more that day and post a few more the next day. Sorry as I can see now, that this is punishable by this type of an attack on me and my efforts.
Checking replies each night I had the time to post a few responses and critique a few. I planned on getting caught up with everyone.
Frankly I thought a few of them went away without a post. I was wrong. But your over the top style and general nasty nature makes me question your intent here.
I wonder why you have a position of any kind here. Truth hurts so maybe you will what? Ban me now......?

Look, Phrygian, I have no beef with you as a person. I truly respect that you work a lot of hours, as do many of us. I am about the nicest, fairest (borderline push-over), caring, giving type guy you're gonna find. Feel free to check around with other members if you have your doubts. I don't want to ban you or for you to leave. My request was simple and it had nothing to do with my own self-interests or anything personal against you. My job as a MOD here is to help insure that this site is fun and valuable to ALL who come here. My initial request was merely for you to not clog up the boards with so many posts at one time. That was it. I was happy with your reply/reaction and was happy that you were here. You have great music that is obviously well liked (you have received stellar reviews by lots of regular community members here, including me). But the fact that you played like you took my suggestion to heart and then slapped me in the face by posting 3 more tunes the next day and bumping all your old ones to the front page with seemingly no interest in thanking people for taking time to listen (you know, we all work a lot of hours and it does take time to check out people's posts....even more time to leave a sentence or two of "congratulations" or constructive words of advice) was really off-putting to me and has me questioning YOUR intent for being here. This is not Phrygian-palooza. This is a place for people to discuss what they are working on and to get feedback and to hear what other people are working on and to just be a give-and-take online community. The reason I went to all the trouble of presenting the stats was because my previous method of polite confrontation was apparently ineffective and I felt that presenting the stats would speak for themsleves. Feel free to spend as much time as you would like searching my posts to find where I am an asshole and post it on up in the Lounge if you want.

To wrap up, I'm done with this topic and will leave it up to the MODs of this particular forum. As for you, I do not want you to leave or be banned, I just want you to share the board space a bit more. But I can say that your attitude displayed here has left me with no desire at all to check out any more of your posts.

Not a problem Rich. I personlly feel that the "Bump" option should be a last resort effort to rejuvenate a dying post that a poster may feel did not get the coverage it deserved. But there are other ways to strategically bump a tune without looking self-serving. For instance, thanking the most previous responder gets the same desired result as merely typing "bump." Or even contact a friend/fellow G101 community member and ask them to check out your tune and leave a comment. Sometimes that is all it takes to keep a post in rotation.

Anyway, thought I'd expand on that part a bit.

Wow, the last post I did (a collab with Stingx) took us about four or five weeks to get finished and posted. It disappeared off the page in two days! I was extremely proud of that post yet I just let it go away. Great work phrygian, and please don't get so defensive. I really enjoyed your posts but with their frequency many other efforts were bumped away without proper attention, including mine, but who cares! In the end, this site is a great opportunity for us. There are many folks with very constructive criticism here (especially KC!) who give us a great nudge musically via their particular talents. I for one have learned manners here. I am a total asshole yet I seem to get along with everybody here! For the record KC and VB are great guys. They have been here for a while and should be taken very seriously. Its all good!

In the forum I regularly attend and have for over a year, people often and regularly simply "Bump" threads with nothing else typed. I did not know this was so offensive here. I can see how it looks like I am a self absorbed schmuck if looked at it from that stance or mindset. But given that I have explained how this came to pass I feel it should be taken at face value. I am truly sorry you feel I slapped you kc_artist! That was certainly not my intention. My intent was never to piss anyone off.
In the end...it really doesnt matter...I will shove off for a spell and come back some time down the road and pay close attention to my posting habbits to ensure no misunderstandings about character and honor. These things are not clearly visible to a cyber entity, not visible to most but clearly viewable by the fine folks here. I will also look into some integrity counciling while I am at it. Hey one can not get tough enough forum skin.

Hey there Phygrian.

It's just like kc has already stated. You just need to calm the posting down a bit dude. We don't discourage posting here at all, but surely you can see that you are in the minority in that most people have learned how to post in moderation here without being told what to do, and those that have been given a quiet word, much like kc suggested to yourself, have taken it on board straight away and adhered to the advice.

Therefore, it's going to be seen as a slap in the face as it seemed you took the advice and then went back on it.

All I can say is you are doing yourself no favours:

a) In the way you appear to be over self promoting yourself. It's the old new guy in a new town syndrome. Just invest a little time to get to know how we operate here, get to know our customs, and mingle a bit, and eventually people will warm to you. The way you're bumping all your threads is obviously gonna put people off cuz you haven't got to know the community yet and comes across as though you are not interested to get to knoe the community.

b) In the way that you have spoken to two of the Moderators here. Straight on the defensive with uncalled for remarks. Again, not the way to do things really amongst a new community.

You just got off on a bad foot. Check out some of the other music on here, listen to the other stuff, check out a few of the other forums, and mingle with the people here.

I promise you, it is worth it. We appreciate everyone has their own lives separate to the onlife existence through this message board, but that's no excuse for not following common curteousy when you are on here. Just spend a little time getting to know everyone and the culture here. There is a wealth of knowledge, advice, friendship, and fun to be had amongst here and once you invest the time, there are plenty of rewards to reap. Your musicianship and talents aren't under question and will be of use to the other members too. You seem a nice guy, and believe me, nice guys (and gals) are always welcome here ! :thumb:

Please, take this advice in the good natured manner in which it is given. There is no need to go on the defensive with me as well...

Well...I normally don't get involved in online altercations but, I'll make an exception this time. Phrygian...you seem like you're a genuinely decent guy...and I know that KC and Vintage Brat are...so, I believe that y'all just got off on the wrong foot. I think you just got a little over zealous in posting so many songs. I've been on this site for quite awhile now and pretty much know what most long time members are looking for in the way of site etiquette. I also live in Vegas so, if you'd like together for a couple drinks sometime and talk about music, guitars, this site, etc I'd be happy to do that. As I said, you seem like a nice guy and I don't think anyone's intentions were to run you off. PM me if ya want.

Very well put SG. Everything you wrote rings true. I was just downstairs cleaning the garage and had a whole internal dialog about this situation and SG has basically just paraphrased it quite closely. The last thing I want is for Phrygian to leave or even feel not welcome here. i personally would like him to stay, as he is a great, well-rounded musician and I also think he seems to be a genuine nice guy. I just like to see a more even proportion between posting recordings and interaction with the community. To be honest, I don't really care if someone posts a bunch of songs as long as they reciprocate a relatively even proportion of feedback on other people's posts and thank people for giving them feedback. That is really the only point I want to make about this whole deal.
