I began playing guitar in August of 1980.

So here is a chronological series of clips dating back to Feb 1986. (that's about as far back as I can go and stomach it--though I have clips all the way back to 1982).

These are mostly in the fusion/jam band/modal jam genre...

The first one is from a jam I did back in Feb 1986 with some guys I used to jam with...kind of my early Holdsworth days. Barry Kinder: drums; Larry Dennison: bass (went on to play with MacAlpine).

Sjones 2-86

The second one is from a jam I did back in June 1990....different players....Terry Melton: drums; Mike Baker: bass

Sjones 6-90

The third from a jam in Feb 1991, again different players (I still play with this bass player from time to time). Don Drewitt: drums; Phil Burton: bass.

Sjones 2-91 All Blues I'm playing my guitar-synth on this (still have it-Roland GM-70 MIDI Converter, 303 Guitar, D-50...though now I use it with my Korg Karma)

From Aug 1995, another jam.....different guys. Doug Macintosh: drums; Jim Gerra: bass.

Sjones 8-95

And finally from a couple of years ago, I got together and jammed with some old high school buddies of mine and came up with this:

Sjones 8-03

All of these represent the differences, the growth, the similarities that have been the arc of my pursuit of competence on my instrument.

Anyway, enjoy.....(or not) ;)

Peace,

Scott

Thank you sir!!

Funny you should mention the Beck thing, from the 1986 clip...as I had just been listening to him on the Rod Stewart song (forget which one it was, the hit that came out around that time)....and had a bit of his thing in me, even though I hadn't done all my homework on him yet....and I was DEEP into Holdsworth at this point....DEEP.....in particular was his Soft Machine "Bundles" recording which someone had given me a copy of only a few months prior....the Frank Dunnery reference is slipping my mind.....(as in who he is)

Anyway MUCH obliged!!!

Peace,
Scott

I'm SO blown away by your playing, Scott!!!!

I'm convinced that guys like you, Vai, Malmsteen, Petrucci and that illusion-dude Copperfield are all from the same planet somewhere out there, where this kinda insane talent is just an everyday-thing, and you're all laughing your asses off at night when you come home, remove your human-suits, talking about us simpleminded humans, and how little we know....

...man, I wish I was from that planet....

Roy.
