How come I can come up with what I think is a cool groove for a verse but for the life of me I cant come up with a chorus is there any tricks or rules you guys use to come up with a chorus? Its like writers block to me...............PS...Im talking about the music not lyrics
how do you come up with a chorus when your writing music

I'm in the process of writing/arranging an original album and what I've had to do is come up with a song title and/or concept for the song, write some rough draft lyrics, and using the song title for the chorus, I imagine the lyrics being sung in my head. When I do this, it usually just comes right to me as far as what chords or melody to play. Makes it easier for me! Good Luck.zappafan said:

Detune your guitar randomly and play your melody. See what strange configurations jump out at you and make note of them, then retune finding the configurations you liked and add them where they seem appropriate. This way you are literally going outside the box and rebooting the thought process. :thumb:

I think some of the most original songs have very different guitar sections to what you'd expect from a chorus. Classic Van Halen choruses never followed the tune sung by the vocalist. As long as you dont end up in a Desmond Childs Type Loop, Living on a Prayer etc...you should be fine.
