Led Zeppelin: Earl's Court Arena (5/24/1975) BIV Edition, v2
===========================================

Image

Description: British rock titans Led Zeppelin served a residency at Earl's Court in London, England in May of 1975, performing on the 17th, 18th, 23rd, 24th and 25th of that month. This presentation offers a front row seat to the 3 and a half-hour performance given on May 24th, 1975. The BIV Edition, v2 is superior to and replaces the "In the Court Of King James" BIV Edition, my previous upscale of this show.

Processing: Vapoursynth QTGMC de-interlace and PAR conversion to 1:1. Proper upscale to 1080p, with noise and compression artifact removal. All intermediate video processing was carried out in lossless (FFV1, 10-bit) processing. After upscaling, a final compression using H.265 10-bit was done, with appropriate cropping. No audio processing done. The source PCM 2.0 was converted to a FLAC 2.0 track, an Opus 192kbps 2.0 track and an EAC3 640kbps 2.0 track. These 3 conversion tracks were re-muxed with the final, compressed file, and the FLAC 2.0 track was set as default. Chapter points were manually entered and named for song selection. Cover art was designed and added. This consisted of a reworking of the artwork from the 1975 Earl's Court Arena concert program.

Notes: I previously released a proper upscale of the 5/24/1975 Earl's Court performance using an EVSD source. This was plagued by a problem common to all of the EVSD sources: audio dropouts following Stairway To Heaven. This released, based on LedZepFilm's 4-source merge, in my opinion, is visually and sonically superior to my previous upscale. There are no audio dropouts in this version, and the lossy audio track provided by EVSD on their releases is now replaced with lossless audio. I would like to give thanks and acknowledgement to LedZepFilm, for providing his 4-source merge; to zoso_ledzep4_yy, for alerting me to the existence of LedZepFilm's merge and for providing me with various sources to compare; and to dragon155, for providing me with LedZepFilm's merge on 2 DVD-9 discs.

What is a BIV Edition?
======================
This isn't tooting my own horn. This refers to the process that I use to upscale video. As the PROCESSING section above indicates, there are a sequence of tasks that I undertake to complete a "proper" upscale.

Why FLAC?
=========
It's a free, open format, lossless compression codec with wide software and device support. Question is, why wouldn't you use it?

Why Opus?
=========
I almost never use lossy audio compression. Opus is the exception. It's a royalty-free, open-format lossy compression codec that generally achieves transparency at 128kbps. I encode to 192kbps for stereo tracks, just because I can.

Why PAR files?
==============
I don't know why PAR files never caught on with the boot community. PAR archives have the ability to compare checksums and to repair files when those checksums don't match. I pair PAR files with anything of importance. You never know when bit rot will strike, and setting a redundancy of 5% sound like cheap insurance. Depending on how high you set the redundancy, you can even re-create missing files.

Not to be purchased or sold!

Enjoy!

Yep. Undoubtedly, EVSD pulled their DVD together from a VHS source but then added their stamp to it. EVSD also has a penchant for downgrading the audio (e.g., from PCM 2.0 lossless track to a lossy pseudo-5.1 track). The 4-source merge created by LZF gets around all that at the same time that it offers a better video source.

You can see that even the hair and guitar strings are more vivid, and I admire the meticulous work of MR. BiginV3gas. Thank you so much! If you guys have EVSD Earls Court 75 (5/24 & 25), Seattle 77, KNEBWORTH 1979 (8/4 & 8/11), you should forget all about them and switch to the "BIV Edition"!

Also, the biggest selling point is that the annoying "EV" logo and the audio glitches after the stairway to heaven have been eliminated, allowing stress-free viewing!

How do you open these files after downloading?

#21 ·
They work. They are a continuous zip archive, which means that you have to download ALL parts before beginning the extraction at the *.001 file. If you're saying you're having trouble downloading them, make certain that you're not using Firefox and use a Chromium-based browser instead.

#23 ·
I don't see a problem. You said, for example, that volume 2 and volume 7 were not working. I just clicked on the above links and initiated download of a file that that WAS there. See photos...

Again, did you try a different browser that is Chromium-based like Brave? I know that there is a Firefox incompatibility, but I don't know why that is. If you are using a chromium browser, there may have been a momentary outage of the service. They're clearly working now.

Thanks! I've been doing some random A/B and and finding the images in your vids a bit sharper, the audio less distorted. The source material certainly has its limitations. I keep that in mind. However, I appreciate the work you're doing to improve upon these awesome videos. And for free.

As for Proton. I am happy to get what I can get. I've figured out a way that works for me so that I can fully enjoy the BIV's as uploaded to Proton. It doesn't seem to matter what third-party service we select. We will never please everybody. Sometimes we won't please anybody. Again, thanks!! I'm digging on the improvements here.
