I have to say this is such a great recording. I believe it is much better capturing a performance that is not intended to be distributed on an album release. Here the performance and rapport with the audience is genuine. This is not staged for a recording. The band is playing very much in the moment and the welcoming audience is part of the energy. Page is clearly enjoying the crowd and vise-versa.

This is fresh Led Zeppelin when they were full of energy reaching for the top of their game. Plant's voice could still handle The Immigrant Song and Page was still using the settings live (although pumped up) that were similar to the sound of their studio recordings. Later Page changed things that gradually contributed to a lack-luster sound. For instance, Whole Lotta Love still has that engaging rhythmic flow between Jones's bass and Page's guitar that later (d)evolved into a sort of staggered/broken up rhythm. That original rhythm was what grabbed you in the first place.

If you are a Pink Floyd fan it is worth listening to the bootlegs from the massive post-Waters tours even though there are commercial live recordings available from this period. Gilmour-Floyd could be one huge uninspired machine live yet there are Gilmour leads on some bootlegs that are superior gems.

Back to Zeppelin, the performance captured for The Song Remains the Same album and film is lack-luster and inferior compared to this bootleg. In many ways even the sound quality is better. For an official release, TSRTS sounded like the microphones were mounted inside tin garbage cans.

Sorry for this long post. So many bootleg threads do not offer many details of their contents. Led Zeppelin fans will definitely enjoy this recording.

Thanks again to everyone involved in making this available.
