My Van Halen-esque Guitars FINISHED!

Just posting some pics to show what someone who knew nothing about painting or building guitars can learn in 3 months.

Finished the black n yella. It WAILS! Will post some mp3s soon.

I also added some of the other guitars I have and some project guitars.

PLUS before I learnt how to paint guitars properly, I made a little prototype guitar too (that you might recognise) just to make sure I got the technique down.

What got you into painting guitars?

Hi Dino...Thanks for the compliment. I've been following your posts re: the EVH star replica guitar. Really nice work! I'm also a subscriber to John Gleinecki's school of PYOG! He's a great guy.

Being such a big VH fan I always wanted a 5150 of my own, then I saw john's book on ebay back in March and thought why I don't I give it a try. I've always been in to art, graphics and making things anyway. I have a Kramer body on order so I can finally achieve my goal. These first two are really just practice guitars so I could learn the technique.

I live in France so I can't get the krylon stuff John recommends. We only have "Duplicolour" paint over here, a German company but a big name in the spray paint industry in Europe. They have a lot of good colours and it's acrylic lacquer.

I am gonna try another guitar body with nitrocellulose in the next few weeks. I have to buy a pressurised paint sprayer for that. You'll catch my progress (success or otherwise) right here in the Guitar Rack forum.

Thanks once again....this forum has some really talented people in it that have inspired me and helped me out.

I have ten guitars, 2 of them are EVH related, not replicas, I did them my own way, thats why I say "Van Halen-esque". I wouldn't say that was TOO obsessed. Anyway, they'll be on ebay soon, so if you like 'em by all means bid on them. The black and yellow one has a FR Bridge, SM Custom Custom PUP in it and squeals like a stuck pig...and that's a good thing. :yumyum:

There are ALOT of people out there who appreciate EVH replicas, including myself. For those who don't ... LET EM PAINT AND BUILD THIER OWN! :thumb:

I posted a thread called "EVH Star Project" awhile back.
Some tool got on there and said that I was "obsessed" with EVH.
WTF? :wtf:

Had he clicked on the thread which showed the Rebel guitar I did, he would have probably said I was "obsessed" with Zakk Wylde. :icon_roll

Makes me wonder what pyscological diagnosis he will provide when he clicks on the thread which shows my Pokadot guitar.

Anyway ... keep up the nice work.
And unless someone has offered to pay you for your services...

Anyway...this is MY thread... What about my cute little miniature 5150 with miniature Floyd Rose? If no one but obsessed Dino is gonna compliment my guitars, then at least SOMEONE should say something about the little toy I made!
