Here is the motherlode from Neil Diamond's Bang years. Any of the original Bang albums (there were many) could potentially be re-created here, but with mono mixes replacing the lousy fake stereo. Much of the material here is out of print and hard to find, but everything is lossless and the best quality available.

Thanks very much! Songs like "The Boat That I Row," "Cherry Cherry," "Kentucky Woman," "You Got to Me," "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon," "Solitary Man," "Thank the Lord for the Night Time," and "Shiloh" are the reason he was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Given that the most recent CD release of this material, The Bang Years 1966-1968, was mastered so ludicrously loud, it's great to hear this stuff mastered sensibly.

The Bang Years is not only loud and poorly EQ'd. Neil doesn't like the stereo mixes but was told that mono would be frowned upon, so his solution was to take the mono mixes and process them into fake stereo! That's a first, as far as I know. Sony wasn't happy at all, but they had no choice but to release it that way. Sometimes the fans lose when an artist has total control.

Again, what a fantastic set! It's such a pleasure to rediscover "Girl you'll be a woman soon" or "Monday, Monday"...
I'm particular fond of the mono mixes.

Thank you so much for this set!

Am I the only one to have notice that ? : on the great song "Do It" : the guitar intro and especially the piano seems to have influenced Phil Spector. The infamous outtake of the Rock'N'Roll sessions in 1973 when John Lennon sung "Be My Baby" has exactly the same piano arrangement.
