Sorry that it took such a long time until my recording showed up here.
After six years Neil Young came over to Europe again, I'm sure for the last time.
I wanted to pick him up several times but looking at the ticket prices it was just a logical consequence to say: NO!! One time is enough.
Again, here he is with some mostly younger mates (o.k. Spooner Oldham seems not be in his Twenties anymore)- this time "The Chrome Hearts".
Here is my personal view on this concert:
being there early it was nice to talk with so many people around, the whole time until the start of NY.
Just a few minutes before the doors were opening a hippie-woman tried to get in front of us all waiting. So there was a bit of trouble with her which led to some more, not that funny, trouble when the doors finally were openend.
Getting me a spot in the front row I soon noticed: yes, front row is not that good sometimes. Here we had some giant speakers in the photo pit with some small speaker on the top of them. So I could only see half of the band when they were jamming - hey, front row, expensive ticket costs and then that holy shit!! When Neil sat down for The Needle I couldn't see him at all, later on the piano again, but -anyway- I could see him or half of him most of the time. Fun fact: there was a small video-screen (I think probably for the lyrics) or so on my Spooner Oldham-spot - and: yes, he was sitting on the piano right behind that screen, so I could only see his hat, his colourful hat, during the whole evening. Loved that.
There was a support act announced named The Inspector Cluzo, start time at 6pm (I would have loved to see them, again), but they did not show up. Nobody knows why.
So we had to wait another 90 minutes to the announced start time of Neils gig, but in fact: he showed up half an hour later.
They had to finish at that area at 10pm, so Neil had to stop then exact - and that's what he did.
Me, I wasn't happy with his set as he didn't play Rockin' in the free world - and I was hopin' for some Throw your hatred down - but, as it's Neil Young you never know what you get.
All in all: for you fans out there it should be a fine collection of songs and a nice one to grab.
For me it would have been better to have stayed at home - although it's my old hero and he played the personal "concert of my life" way back in 1996.
