hi,
i am using a soundblaster live with a live drive. i connect my guitar to the front line-in port, and can hear the guitar through the computer's speakers. however, whenever i go to record in cakewalk or krystal or anything else, it can never detect my guitar. that is, i hit record and can hear myself play, but nothing ever gets recorded. i have properly selected the source so that isn't the problem. what could possibly be the issue? thank you so much.

yes i have EVERY volume control (recording and playback, even the microphone, all line ins and outs and spdif and everything i don't even use) all at full volume.

the sources are all configured and set to the "live!" soundcard and its drivers. in cakewalk i have troubleshooted this problem and it suggest priming for the record and then going to "meter" and setting it to 90db and seeing if the EQ responds when hitting guitar notes. the meter, for me, does not do anything when i play, despite being able to hear it through my computer speakers. a short bar is displayed but it does not move up nor down. when i switch to the right channel, rather than left, the bar disappears completely. switching to stereo and it comes back (because it includes the left channel...).

so i have everything set (i think) and all volumes on everything to the max. at this point i've been trying to get this to work for a year but have never posted nor had such a motive to get it working. i have the equipment and the software, so what the hell is going on?

since i can HEAR my guitar through the speakers, can we assume that my live drive and soundcard work properly? so then it couldn't possibly be a hardware issue could it?

this is really confusing to me. i GREATLY appreciate any and all of you who can help me out with this one...

i canNOT even record with windows wav recorder. even though i can play my guitar all day long through my computer.... no recording... none whatsoever.

ok, well interesting find here, guys.

it seems i have solved my own problem!!

.... in the windows recorder i noticed that under the "recording control" the selected option was "mic in" and i noticed it allowed me to switch to line in 2, which i did, and then windows recorder started workign! i go to cakewalk and now the EQ is responding to my guitar and letting me record! so the question then is, why does windows recorder control these settings?? cakewalk didn't let me change any of that stuff.

also, my cakewalk software "ends" in 12 days.... does anyone know of a good "free" program for doing these kinds of guitar track stuff?

thank you all so much. glad i figured this out, but i couldn't have done it without you all posting questions that got me thinking about things. digging deeper i found my error. thank you again.
