Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters
Robert Anthony Plant (born 20 August 1948 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire) is an English rock singer, best known as the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, but also for his successful solo career. He is known for his powerful style, wide vocal range and often mystical lyrics.
Plant was born in West Bromwich, West Midlands, England. After the end of Led Zeppelin in 1980, Plant continued as a solo artist. In 1984, he released a mini-album with the semi-band The Honeydrippers: The Honeydrippers: Volume One, which included the hit Sea of Love. Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck also played on it. No Volume Two has been released yet. Plant contributed a song to the soundtrack of the film Wayne's World 2 in 1993. In 2005, Plant formed a new backing band (Strange Sensation) with which he recorded the album Mighty Rearranger.
Plant still works regularly with Page. In December 2007, surviving members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, joined by Jason Bonham, the son of original drummer John Bonham who died in 1980, gave a one-off Led Zeppelin reunion concert at London's O2 theatre. This was set up as a tribute to Atlantic director Ahmet ErtegĂĽn who had died earlier that year. Although the concert was a resounding success, Robert Plant later stated in an interview for BBC radio that as far as he was concerned there would be no Led Zeppelin reunion.
