Here's another one that everybody knows. This was the first VH riff I ever learned, back when I first started playing electric. I was into much tamer music at the time and hadn't heard much Van Halen, but my guitar teacher wanted me to learn RWTD because it was a good example of major triad inversions. I bought the album (yes, vinyl) to hear what it was supposed to sound like, and the rest is history.

The tone took a lot of tweaking, to get the chords to sustain without mushing out too much. I still can't get the pick slides to sound right though.

There's also some echo on the recording that I can't seem to duplicate - I don't have a good ear for dialing in the right echo time and strength. Any hints?

I hear a lot of crackling interference on your recording, but other than that, it's not that bad recording wise...i think you may need some sort of preamp for your mics as it sounds like your mic is also picking up some noise..(try close mic'ing on an angle about 3 inches off the cone's edge... imo). The licks are solid and brings back good memories!! The tone is very close indeed! My thoughts bro. Cool to hear you play...i wish it didn't cut off so sharply at the end though...but cool tune
