hey i have an old gibson SG bass from the late 60s, the kind with only a bridge pickcup, could anybody tell me how high the action on it should be? i kinda want to adjust it cuz its pretty high right now

Well, I'd say the action should be such that there's no fret buzz (or at least minimal fret buzz) but that it's easy and comfortable to play for extended periods of time. On my J Bass, the action is about 2/16" (3mm) at the nut and 3-4/16" (5mm) at the 12th fret. The Nut itself is 3/16" and the bridge saddles are about 7/16" off the body on average. Hope that helps, although the SG body is at an angle to the neck.
