Ok here's one for you well tuned ears out there.
Setting the guitar and amp aside, what effects do you
think George Lynch is using on his version of
"All Along the Watchtower"off of his "Furious George"
CD.
Or maybe you know it by reading it someplace.
I want to know because I really love that sound.
What do you guys think?

George uses SO many different amps and vintage/new pedals the only real way to know would be to e-mail his webmaster and see if you get a reply. Gotta say tho, I am a big fan and no matter what amp George uses (Marshall plexi, Engl, Hughes and Kettner, Soldano), he always sounds like George and I reckon thats because 90% of the tone is in the guitarists fingers. He once said (regarding his tone) 'If I'm gonna cook, I need the right ingredients' but I reckon he could make a 5 course gourmet 'meal' with a coupla eggs!

I agree, that tone is awesome

There's a great interview and lesson with George in the new GuitarOne magazine where he lists some of the gear used on Furious George.

Here's the list...
1965 Marshall Plexi Super-100 & TNT 4x12 cabinet
Univox Uni-Drive
Jordan Creator
Fulltone Deja-Vibe
70's Echoplex
ESP Tiger & signature series guitars all strung with Dean Markley strings with Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon pickups.
Dunlop Picks (light & flexible ones)

He also mentions his new amp from Peavey called the Brahma which is gonna be unveiled at the Jan 2005 NAMM show

I have so many guitar heros, but george has always been my
main man. (Eddie would come in second)
I've heard tons of different guitarist do Watchtower.
I've heard the song so many times that it kind of became
old hash.(Kind of like the Stairway to Heaven effect)
But I have to admit when I heard Lynchs version,it opened my eyes to the song again. It's so fresh to me.It's like a new song, even though I know it's not.
You can't help but be captivated by each of his phrasing
inbetween the vocals (a Question and Answer type phrasing)
It is truly sweet.
