Notice the E on the 5th fret 2nd string remains even when you go down to the A chord.

Verse section

This is the basic verse section. Be sure to keep time with the rhythm.

I translated the chord voicings as best I could. I based it on slowed down

audio plus what I saw live for the positioning.

The ending of this section even on slowed down audio is tough to hear.

I did this along with the CD and it works. I'm sure its not what he's doing

exactly. But, I don't have too much time to mess with it. And this works

Its some sort of a scale up ending on B. That's about the best I can tell ya.

But, this sounds good and it seems to work nicely with the mp3.

Chorus

The chorus section is basically a very syncopated version of the verse

section. You want to get a little funky with it. I'll give you the white meat

of it here and you can take it from there. Its pretty straight forward for

the most part.

This is what I heard for this part when I slowed it down. The root notes in the chord

forms can be left out if you want.

Again this is another part I will come back and edit later. Its not exactly what Ed

is doing. But, it works for now. And will give you the idea anyway.

Back into a verse section etc etc from here. Some variations on rhythm occur.

But the double stops and riffs remain similar.

Pre-Solo Bridge.

This first section comes out of the 2nd chorus section. ---- means to slide into it.

Under the above section Ed is doing sustained harmonics using a scream

and a sustainer. And playing with the whammy bar. They are off the

note below. The feel will be up to you. Use the bar to bring it down

and bend it up in sections to raise it. Its an over dub but this is where its done.

TIP: If you do not have a sustainer on your guitar you can duplicate the effect

by doing a whistle scream. This is done by adding more thumb and less pick

right about mid way between the neck and the bridge of the guitar. It takes some

practice but whistles sound very much like sustainer feedback.

You can use a harmonizer or a delay for these sections. If using a delay. Set it to

1 quick repeat at about 400 milliseconds. Switch to front pickup.

Solo

This solo is a throw back to early VH. Its something right out of 1984 all the way.

The opening section does NOT translate into tab well. For those of you who saw

my van halen 101 part 1 video lesson. You will know what this tab means.

Hammer on to the 17th fret from the 15th fret, then bend the 17th fret up 1 step and

at the same time push down on the bar slightly. Then slowly release the bend and

the bar at the same time.

Simplified this section of the solo a bit for ease of understanding the tab.

The idea here is to do the pull off then a bend and whammy bar note and repeat.

Eddie is actually adding in another note from the 3rd string in the pull of section. But,

it looked confusing so I left it out. If you can nail that pull off and hammer on sequence

you should be good to go just the same.

From here it goes into another chorus section.

Outro Ending of the song.

Out of the last chorus they go into this ending sequence.
