well, be that as it may (sure as hell looks like it is to me) Ed used the quarter to prevent the trem from pulling sharp. Can we end this moronic debate now? Christ, Ed only said this in @ 400 guitar magazine interveiws!vom halen said:no it's not...i checked with him...

The Guitar was eventually repainted with red, black and white stripes and orange truck reflectors added to the back of the guitar.. This red-Frankenstrat first appeared as the black and white guitar pictured on the debut VH album The nut was brass and the tailpiece unit was from a 1961 Fender Stratocaster. This guitar was Edward's main instrument for the first several albums and tours. During the band's second world wide stampede Van Halen replaced the original tremelo with then-prototype Floyd Rose. A quarter was attached just under the top-back side of the floyd Rose to keep it from rising up.

Well, your sorta right, he found that designing the trem cavity so the Floyd rests flush against the body eliminates the need for the quarter, like on the MM's and Wolfgangs. He only had the quarter on the Frankie..vom halen said:dude...i'm well aware as to why he had that...but i also provided pictures with the franky and a floyd and NO quarter...so obviously it wasn't that fooking important after a while...
