soloist,
I personally use the line 6 guitarport and also own a behringer v-amp2. I hear the line 6 pods are great also. I guess it depends on how you intend to use it. (live, home recording) good luck! :icon_peac
:)

thnx for ur reply, i need it for home recording, so if theres any amp modelors in that category thats very popular n very effective
i dont think you can beat the line6 gear for the price or the features. they've got their act together in this field. I would recommend the line6 pod xt
better than digitech?

so its better than digitech?
how much would this line6 xt be?
since u r experienced in line6's wat r the advantages?
My son has a Beheringer V-Amp Pro, and I have a Pod Xt, I personally like the sound of the Pod better, it's more "real" to my ears. I got mine for $299 at Sam Ash. Good luck.
I don't personally own a line6 pod but I do have and use every day the line6 guitarport. I do also own the behringer v-amp2 which i dont use much, just when i travel for practice purposes. The guitarport is really cool for the learning guitarist because it has some cool useful tools like being able to slow a song down to 1/2 speed w/out changing pitch. that's really huge when trying to transcribe a song. I have found it most useful. if you're a more experienced guitaist then the pod would probably be more your style and it also has a few more amp models and cabs than the guitarport does. if theres any questions about line6 gear head over to www.line6.com they've got some useful demos on their site. as rythameen said, around 300 for the pod xt, about 100-150 for the guitaport and the behringer v-amp2 is around 150. Hope this helps ya out soloist. :thumb:

hey there...i use the gnx myself hooked up directly to my computer...i think it does a great job...digitech put out a lot of well received quality products...

i've owned line 6 stuff too...the spider ii...the variax...i thought they sounded too "clinical" for me...i read the forums on how the variax had a lot of issues with dead strings and lots of repairs and brought mine back to the store for a "real" guitar...as for the spider...i would have to turn the knobs from zero - 80% before i heard any change in tone or fx...it also had glitches such as...when you turn off an effect...it continued sounding....in other words...you had to shut the amp off to "reset" it it over and over again...line 6 stuff is too finicky for me...but other people seem to like it...

check out both line 6 and digitech forums...and user reviews at www.harmonycentral.com let yopur instincts...and wallet decide... :icon_peac

thnx guyz uve been most helpful
i m gonna go down to the store and test it out b4 i buy it
i m sorta leanin towards a line 6 equipment since the gnx from digitech will tear my wallet a new hole, i just cant afford like 600-700 bucks
i alrdy bought too much stuff
1 more question, i m a intermediate guitar player(shredder), i m about 15, luv playin malmsteen's compositions at my school. so i was wonderin wud the guitarport or the pod xt be more helpful to improve my skill to an advanced?
Just caught this thread,
just to add my worth....

I now use the Cyber Twin, which has got everything you need onboard, the only trouble for you is the price.... saying that I think its well worth it, and only having to carry and store the amp and controller certainly helped my choice. It maybe something to work up to as when I was your age I too coudn't afford much either.. Good luck with your purchases.

I have had the pleasure of being around real 'tone heads' who rant and rave about this and that, mostly pod v's digi v's behringer. I have a bunch of behringer stuff in my rack and also have a V amp 2. A good friend of mine has a pod pro so we went head to head and examined the difference in the two units with regards to tone and effects...the only real difference in any of the settings defined or user were that the pod was a little boomier on the bottom end. If you have a budget and good ears, Id say that Behringer are well worth a look and a listen.
Good luck and whatever happens let YOUR ears be the judge, advice is all well and good but its you that has to be happy with your tone.
If the price is a big issue i would go for Guitarport, basicly the same as a POD but Cheap,(not as deep for tweeking) but the on line content is worth the purchase on its own. If you can stretch out a little more cash then get the POD XT (Not the Live) you wont regret it.
There are ANALOGUE AMP MODELLERS !
Tubeman
BadCat
AMT tubalizer
SansAmp PSA Triod
all use real 12AX and real hard loaded analogue hardware speaker simulators
Price around $200

If you dont have a lot of cash, and are really mostly interested in recording, man, you gotta check out the Digitech Genesis 3.
Check out this review.. It pretty much summs it all up. You can even pick up a used one on ebay really cheap. But its so amazing the quality of the sound. Those 24 bit ADA converters really do sound awsome. I have mine going through and ART DPS TUBE pre, and it sounds so awsome.

All the above modelers are superb.. But might be out of your budget, so check out the prices....

sure u can, if u look at anything by behringer, u already got it beat in price... and behringer's products generally have virtually identical featuresets...

99 bux for a vamp2, 169 for a vamp pro(got mine for 157 after shipping on ebay brand new), 200 for the floorboard(got mine for 130 on ebay), i'd say for a price/performance comparison, behringer has line6 way beat
Elysian, i agree totally, I've never owned a pod but I do have the guitar port and have really liked it. I use the v-amp 2 when I travel basically just for practice in motel rooms and such. For the first time since I've had the v-amp 2 I hooked it up to my home stereo and played around with it for a while and i was really astounded by it!! I've always used it through headphones. I think they are both awesome products but behringer can beat line 6 on price any day!!
The Digitech GNX 2000 may be an option for you too. It's basically a GNX4 without the recorder. I have a GNX4 and am really impressed with it's sounds and effects. Unless you're using a PA or studio monitors, it's going to take some dialing in to get the right sounds, but great tones are definitely in there. The Digitech forums have some really great patches available for free.

I'm very impressed with the level of support that Digitech has been giving. Patches and updates are offered for free. Plus, if you want to use a bass, you don't need to buy patches or a different unit. The GNX is ready. Just make sure that you learn how to use it. That's the reason for most of the negative reviews.

Ah - another member of the Followship Of The Cyber Twin!!! I have one to - the SE model. What a cool as amp. It sounds great live, and even better mic'd up with some SM57s. How do you like yours?

Im a newbie to the amp modeling world.. I dont care much for amp modeling.. I just need the sounds that cater to my ears. I just purchased the v-amp pro.. and for the price($169) its a kick ass deal.. my only dissappointment so far is I cant get the clean tone that I am looking for... But I will find it eventually :)

I have a BASS V Amp Pro, and I get killer cleantone. This is how I did it:

First, get a USB to MIDI-IN/MIDI-OUT converter cable (I have a Edirol and it works great).

Then, download the Behringer V amp control software. It allows you to do things you CANT do with the clunky button interface (such as totally shut off the cabinet modeling all together).

Next, plug guitar in with the V amp connected to your output device you want to set it up for.

Since the software acts as a realtime MIDI controller, you can try a setting and tweak it and easily save it to any bank position you want. The software makes it easy to copy similar patches and move them around.

Thats how I dialed in a great clean tone. I had to kill the boost pedal overdrive section, and adjust a few controls to make some killer wimp rock patches.

Also: I didnt buy the FCB1010 to control it. I use a Rocktron MidiMate and totally think thats the best way:
1) The FCB1010 can only controll 100 patches (the Vamp lets you have 125: 25 wasted positions). The Rocktrom lets you have all access.

2) The FCB1010 has some note generation features I wouldnt use (MidiMate is a generic controller)

3) The FCB1010 has a LAME non existant display: the Midimate has a human readable display that is usefull. Who the hell can remember 100 different patches by number?

4) The Midimate only supports 1 external expression pedal: the FCB has two. Also, the FCB allows for the CCs to be specific for EACH INDIVIDUAL PATCH. I nearly got it for that feature alone, but most of what I do it doesnt matter, and I am controlling only one MIDI device with it (the V amp).

Both the Midimate and FCB allow only 5 CC pedals at once, so my descision was limited to what I would do and what I was using the footswitchable pedal for.

Interestingly, the FCB1010 will not allow you to send CC127 (the change code to put the Vamp into TUNER mode). That seems to suck.
