Eddie Van Halen fans...tell me your preferences.

It is like asking a parent to choose their favourite child out of a brood. All have their merits and each bring love and joy to you and the wider world. So to answer this you really have to brave and explain to all the others children, that even though you love them dearly, these five kids have had the biggest impact and brought the greatest joy to you.

1. Somebody Get me a Doctor- Was my first Van Halen tune I ever heard. To this day, it still gives me a tingle up my spine when I hear this tune and the solo "really got me"

2. Finish What you started from RHRN- This solo had everything I love about Eddie, the feel, the timing, the wail, it has it all. This gets turned up to 10 every time at home. (My 4 year old son loves this as well!

3. Loss of Control- It sounds as the title states "out of control" Eddie wails away, turns left, right and then skids back into the song. A real edge of your seat solo and you have no idea where you may end up. (great to play while zipping to work through busy city traffic)

4. Me Wise Magic- Return of the great guitar slinger. The solo stomps along with Alex and Mike. The wailing and soloing on the end kicks as well. Made a believer out of a close freind who thought Ed was crap! (Bone head)

5. Girl Gone Bad- Just like Loss of Control as it contains all of Eddie's best elements, diving bombing screams, fast runs and some awesome rhythm work. The interplay between Ed and Dave is a wonder to hear.

Rock on Eddie.

Wow - only five?! Hmmm, well then, I'd have to say that my choices are the following (in no particular order because they're all awesome):

I'm the One: the whole song is like one long solo - featuring some of Ed's signature licks, blazing speed, and dexterity.

Hang 'em High: This is one of the tunes that really shows off Ed's groove and style.

Here About it Later: Where does he come up these amazing rifs?!

Mean Streets: Listen to the opening 20 seconds of the song...nuff said.

Icecream Man: Need I say more?!

Oh yeah, I'd throw in just about every tune from VH I through Fair Warning. But I'm biased.

Favorite Eddie solos??

Jump- the ultimate pop/rock guitar solo
Right Now- Ed speaks volumes, (no pun intended) in this one
Hang em High- love that open string riff in there
Runnin with the Devil- sometimes less is indeed more
Beat it- I know the singer is a pedophile, but you gotta admit, that solo RIPPPPS

Little Dreamer - The solo really fits the mood of the song. One of the few flashy solos that actually fits a relaxed kind of song.

No-one mentioned 'Eruption' or doesn't that count as it's not a solo in a song?
Well...
1. Girl Gone Bad is awesome
2. Little Dreamer...see mabs comments
3. Push Comes To Shove-I think Ed had been listening to some Allan Holdsworth but it is awesome
4. Unchained always gives me grief because of the timing!
5. I'm The One...now I LOVE playing this!

In my opinion, Mean Street is by far the baddest solo Eddie has ever produced.
