To get back on track:

I found no free (or very cheap in the way FF was) file sharing service that allows you to store files indefinitely, has a decent end user experience for the download (no intrusive ads, no indecent waiting time), no caps on downloads, search engine etc...

What Mega offers (for a price):

  • permanent storage (as long as you pay obviously)
  • easy upload (either web interface or their tool)
  • no need to zip files
  • no ads
  • no waiting time, but I think there's a cooldown after a while

What they don't offer:

  • no rewards program (to extend your account)
  • no search engine
  • not free

there is 5gb download limit with mega, but that depends if the account holder has paid for additional bandwidth.

at the moment I am a premium FF member who is unable to download, my account is due to renew but keeps getting extended, unless they get this fixed I am not going to renew after 10 yrs of being a premium member.

My observation is the filefactory naysayers, I don’t recognize their names. And when they try to make their points, their observations are inaccurate. Swisstransfer links die within hours of being posted. How is that better ?

FileFactory was great for a long time. That’s why everyone here used it. I’m getting tired of saying this, but what was great about it was the search function and the unlimited daily downloads. No one else had those features. And the long term storage. You were able to pull file like 10-15 years old. The naysayers don’t understand any of that for some reason, and I’m done trying to help them understand this. The problems now are obvious. All the dead links have been problematic for a while unfortunately, but I’ve had a great run with them. Hopefully they can come back strong.

As of today, FF is still broken . . . . . here was was today message when I tried a single download. I am a premium, lifetime FF subscriber, which doesn't seem like such a good deal these days . . .I've sent multiple messages to their support and it's a proverbial black hole . . . . let's hope they "new and improved" FF beta can be further improved . . . .
Got the same thing

For now, the only decent one I found is Mega but the downside is that it's expensive. I mean for some it'll be like giving a tip to the cab driver, for others it's money they need for other things, but it's still not free. Torrents are free and great but eventually people stop seeding it (that's the very reason why these forums exist).

One thing many people forget is that Filefactory was basically free if you uploaded enough stuff. They'd give you "points" as a reward program that allowed you to extend your premium account.

I basically paid nothing to host files indefinitely. I registered during an Easter or Black Friday promo for cheap and I think the last time I paid was 2018, I used all my points to extend it and this is how it still is today in 2025:

Now I could switch to Mega but with several TBs of stuff to host there, I'd have to pay over 300$ a year.

We all have to remember this is a hobby and everybody's getting stuff for free on the downloading end.

That's why you get some negative reactions from time to time, that's lilke me telling a taper I'd like him to use different mics for his recordings.
He bought the tickets, went to the show, took the risk of getting kicked out, had to stay mostly quiet and not move a lot so the recording sounds good, transferred the tape, uploaded it. I get it for free. I'm in no position to ask for anything.

So when someone uploaded terabytes of free music and gets talked to like he's customer support, it's annoying. I'm not saying you did it, I'm talking in general.

Let's all use common decency and be respectful to each other, no one's asking for a medal or even a "thank you" (and frankly it's the tapers that should receive one) but in the end it's a free service provided by regular Joes and the constant complaining gets old fast.

Also I've noticed Mega and Mediafire sometimes erroneously tag some files as "copyright infrigement", that's why I had to delete that huge GN'R folder and reupload it on FF.

FF never does that, although they're very shady regarding copyrights which is pretty bad in itself.

As for Swisstranfer I think it says the links are good for for 30 days, but if more than 250 people download the file, the link expires. So any download that's popular is guaranteed to die in a few hours unfortunately (happened to one of my Genesis megaleak links, for obvious reasons).

I was finally able to get onto FileFactory, but unfortunately the website does not have funtionality. I was frustrated with the 5minute wait on downloads, when I event downloaded anything in 2 weeks. so I decided to sign up for premium. My password does not work. Reset the password, still does not work. Finally sign in with Google. Try to buy a 30 day trial...ooj wait, they're offering me two months. Click the link, blank page. Go back to the 30 day trial...PayPal payment links to a blank page. Ok, I'll do my credit card. That doesn't work either, I keep getting kicked back to the main page. So frustrating. Maybe I need to wait another couple weeks until they get the bugs worked out.

Yes I think waiting another couple of weeks is the ONLY option we have.

I have a LIFETIME premium membership and am trying to wait patiently for them to resolve their obvious issues.
If I were you I would NOT try to send them ANY money until those aforementioned issues are RESOLVED!!

Try your best to wait patiently.

I am hopeful their "New and Improved" service happens SOON or everyone here and all over the sharing and collecting community will indeed move on and try something new.

As a Lifetime member I am hoping, hoping, truly hoping that my already PAID permanent account will have some value again in the future.
I have had NO COMPLAINTS of the service until, obviously, their current problems.

THANK YOU ALL for sharing and maintaining this common interest group......one way or another.

i paid sometimes for File factory but when i go there free, for a file sometimes it was maybe 2 hours it took to download and now it's maybe between 5 and 8 hours ....no way , not good for anybody, also the page changed and sometimes also it tells that i, already download a page now or many minutes ago and that i have to wait ....that's a lie, i went there different days i didn't download anything before ....

people, don't mess around again with File factory, there's other companies like 1fichier, Mediafire or Pixeldrain, depositfiles, gigabytes....we can use others , there's also Turbobit or Rapidgator but they are very slow when you're not member....

To the FileFactory guys. The new format is terrible for searching on your phone. The screen isn’t formatted properly and file names are not shown. We get the size and date, but no file names

my experience for the last couple years has been, 5-8 hr downloads, that time out mid-way through & when I try to recoup, it says, I've reached my limit, so, I downloaded for 3-5 hrs only to get booted & never getting the files.

That's why I've said, in the past, that, for all practical purposes, FF is worthless to me.

That said, people use what works for them, & it's not their problem that it doesn't work for me, especially when they are paying money to share files to a lot of people, & most don't have any complaints.

This sucks though for the guys invested in them. I would venture to say though, that, there's something going on that has them troubled just as much as their customers. It seems like they have a server system that is totally run haywire. I doubt that they have malicious intent to screw over their customers.

Hopefully they'll get it up & running for you guys.. & quick!
