for sure VTMISHKA you're a real die-hard fan of scorpions/schenker like me.

at the time i had this recording on cassette (surely 20 years ago), it was hard to believe that i had in my hands a bootleg of scorpions with Michael.

and also i known that Michael made only the french tour i think (beginning of '79 for sure), i think that in april Jabs was on the tour, i'm not sure, it's just in my memory that i presume that.

Scorpions w/MS lovedrive shows are my favourite!:icon_headThough I remember Michael saying somewhere that he had a hard time playing Uli Roth's leads but he played
AWESOMELY GOOD on the Uli stuffs!:clap:I love Matthias Jabs as well :icon_thumbut his playing IMO is not really polished and gelled yet on this tour,not at least until 'Animal Magnetism' where he playing gets really better.:thumbup:

 

for sure Mathias had to experiment because he had big boots to fill in playing for scorpions.

as you told, he was better in the animal magnetism tour and for me, he was at his maximum in the blackout tour .

i saw scorpions this last summer in montreal and the sound was so hot and Mathias played with so much tightness and precision.

but....my favorites are Uli Roth and Michael Schenker !!!!

But i do really admire Matthias Jabs for his guts in filling-in MS twice during the lovedrive tour.:77:And you're right.He really was at his maximum during 'Blackout',where he really smokes!

Twice? I thought that the first gigs in Europe were with MS an the came (from about April 1979 on) Mathias Jabs and stayed....

 

thanks very much django8 for remind me about michael's dates, that's what i was thinking about Mathias that he was maybe in the band in april '79 but i was not sure 100%.

 

Matthias did step in twice for Michael Schenker,first being temporary and the second permanently.Michael first left near the end of the German leg of the tour in around february 79 and the band finished off the remaining dates in Germany with Matthias.Matthias was at first reluctant but finally agreed on a temporary basis,just for the German dates .Michael came back for the France tour but again he MIA around april and Matthias came in again just in time for the gig at Lyon,France.This time around,the band asked him to stay permanently but Matthias only decided to stay on permanently during the Japanese tour later around june 79.:icon_thum

Metal Mania, you have the chronology as I've heard it too.

There are apparently 3 shows from the Lovedrive tour with Michael (Berlin, Cologne and Paris). At least according to this site:

This guy rates the sound quality of the 2 posted here on Guitars101 as both Bs. He rates the Cologne show at B-.

I seem to recall hearing that he also played the show in Brussels. I can't remember where I heard that. At any rate, I think the 2 we have here are probably the best quality.

I agree about Matthias. I'm mainly a Michael Schenker fan - I like Uli and Matthias but there's a quality about Michael's playing that resonates with me.

By the way, there's a video floating about that was recorded in Japan from this tour as well. It (of course) has Matthias. As was mentioned, he really did an amazing job of learning the music. I'm certain you can find a torrent for this video if you don't have it. I've also seen it for sale here and there.
